06 with 203.7k mi. Such a great car. Only costly repair was front wheel bearings at ~160k and 198k. Rears waiting for warm dry day and motivation.
Bought Aug '11 with 113k. Dealer services till I got it. I'm 2nd owner. Gold with tan leather Nav phone, sat.. jbl paid bout 10,3 I think. In NJ. Car was immaculately clean. With chrome hubcaps.
Oh yea, and everything works. Everything. Phone Nav back up camera, just had 2 mo trial satellite radio. This just never stops working! Love it!

    1) original HV battery

    2) 12v is a used one bought in Craigslist for $20. Failed once in jan cold and didn't fail next 2 colder nites near 1.

    3) No

    4) No

    5) guess at 46-52

    6) castrol synthetic or
Blend. Whatever filter in sale. 7-10 k or so. Keep level up

Decent for last 30 min daily commit.

I have 07, bought with 14k, now 241k - original everything except for driver side strut - slammed into middle divider. Replaced front cooler when I ran into something solid on freeway. Consistent 48 - 52 mpg, but using oil at about 1 at/3000 miles

The other day my wife was driving our 2006 Prius and the batteries finally went on her.
Roughly 228K miles (not with the car at the moment for exact ODO)
Averaging about 46mpg over last year.

We're debating whether it's worth investing $2500-$3000 for new batteries at this point or to replace it before something else goes wrong.

It's been super reliable up to this point, with just regular maintenance/oil changes (every 5k, and after 150k switched to the high milage oil). Other than that, only service has been Serpentine belt and muffler replacement at 215K, several sets of tires over the years, and new brakes around the 190K mark.

Love the car, we actually have a 2012 model that just doesn't feel as solid as the 2006.

Money wise, hard to imagine anything beating battery replacement unless the car has been abused.

You can repair it for cheaper than $2000 to $3000.

You could have the battery reconditioned or have the bad cells replaced for cheaper.

That is NOT the smart money move. Buy brand new battery for another 5-10 years of use.

I am wondering how you know the traction battery is the problem.

Just curious what was the symptom? I have a loud hum at about 284K and the dealer said it could be the bearings but most likely the "gear"(?) between the hybrid and gas engine.
    Yah, I'm wondering the same!?

I would like to join now.

For people using oil, your PCV valve is probably gunned open.

You haven't mentioned having replaced the 12v battery over the years. Please post the symptoms and codes that were pulled so that we can assist you further.

How could she tell it went out?
I'm going on 211K, and all of a sudden the other day, the VSC and Red Triangle light came on... shortly after, I started having trouble accelerating. There was one point where it wouldn't let me go past 40 mph... just would go. It freaked me out, and I'm still worrying about it. Anybody have any ideas? I really am not looking forward to spending 3K on a new battery if that's what it is... This single mom can't handle that right now. :(

That depends on the owners. If they're handy, playing wack-a-mole with module pairs can be far less expensive. If not, I think paying someone to replace the cells with cells from a salvaged 2014+ pack is far less expensive and almost as durable.

I bought my 2009 Prius second-hand from Fitzgerald Toyota Rockville, MD (Fitzgerald Auto Mall - New and Used Cars, locations in FL, MD and PA) in October of 2010. Prior to purchasing it was a dealer loaner vehicle. I was amazed at how quiet it was, and loved how the engine shut off when I was stopped at a red light. The Prius has been a blessing to my life and I will never buy anything else. I am a loyal Prius customer -- Unless I some how won the lottery. Then I'd by a hybrid-Porsche. but short of that, I'm loyal to the Prius. My goal is to keep my 2009 as long as I can, I'm shooting for 500,000 miles

So far I've replaced the 12V battery, front bearings, front brakes and rotors / rear drums and shoes, I'm on my third set of tires, second set of spark-plugs, replaced the ATF (automatic transmission fluid) at 130,000 miles, cleaned my throttle body at 150,000 and regular oil and air filter changes. I haven't needed anything else maintenance wise. I'm getting ready to change my PCV valve, Lower O2 sensor, A/F sensor, third set of spark-plugs, and replace my struts with adjustable coil-overs.

I think this coming winter I'll replace my front/rear brakes again.

    Dave,

You are overdue for a drain/refill of the Type WS ATF in your Tranny (I do mine every 60k miles). It can be a simple DIY or your dealer should charge about $100 for the job. You may be overdoing the brakes. My 2004 Prius still has its original pads/shoes at 277k miles.

Wow that's great news I'm in the same boat I want to get the 500 K with my Prius C. Just like Jeff mentioned do the transmission oil. It's going to be black black black when you drain it. You have most certainly shorten the life of the gearing inside.

I would also clean the duct and air fan to the battery once every 100 K. The heat really takes a toll on the battery .

Thanks Jeff, I'm defanitly due for another ATF change. I agree on the brakes, I'm upgrading to stoptech rotors and EBC pads. :) hopefully in the next year or so.

My 2004 logged 200,000 miles this afternoon.

    1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? No
    2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? Yes, most recently at 91K miles.
    3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? Yes, at ~60K mile intervals, most recently at 150K miles.
    4) Did you replace the brake pads? Yes, at 130K miles. Front rotors were machined at that time.
    5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? Not available, but low 50's to high 40's typically.
    6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? 7,500 mile intervals, Toyota oil filter and 5W-30 full synthetic oil, Mobil 1, Castrol, Valvoline, whatever name brand that Walmart happens to have on sale.
    7) How about post a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO? OK

In addition to the above, besides the usual preventive maintenance, I performed the following repairs:

    1. engine coolant pump, thermostat, and serpentine drive belt; slight leak at pump bearing
    2. replaced both sun visors in passenger compartment

Further, the windshield was replaced with a PGW part under my auto insurance. The inverter/transaxle coolant pump was replaced in 2012, at 130K miles by a Toyota dealership under the SSC, this was the second replacement. The original was replaced by me in 2009 prior to our moving to southern AZ as a preventive measure (the original had not failed), hence the first replacement pump only lasted three years.

Regarding tires, I've installed one set of Bridgestone Ecopia EP100 followed by two sets of Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 and have been very happy with both tire models.

My 100K mile post shows more repair activity during the earlier years of the car's life, and is #290 here:
    100,000 Mile Club | Page 15 | PriusChat

It is pretty amazing how reliable the car has been, overall. No fluid leaks. No wheel bearings needing replacement. No failure of CV joints. The air conditioning system has never been recharged with additional R-134a and works great in the hot southern AZ summer with ambient air temps up to 110 degrees F. The exhaust system is sound. The traction battery has provided great service throughout. No unusual whining or other noises. No warning lights on. I haven't needed to replace the front struts or rear shocks during the second 100K miles, so the replacement Toyota branded parts (made by KYB) which I installed during the first half of the car's life seem to be more durable than the original equipment KYB.

Congrats, Patrick! Looks like you take care of the Prius and the Prius takes care of you. I'd like to thank you for all that you do for the Prius community! We are lucky to have you! Keep up the good work

We recently passed 200,000 miles on our 2005 Prius (package 6). We bought it new from our local dealer. Lifetime mileage is just about 48 mpg. I change the oil & filter every 5k myself. Until recently I had been using Toyota filters. Now using Fram extended mileage filter. I use dino oil. Usually Chevron (Costco with coupon). I am now adding a half a quart between oil changes.

No problems, so far, with the traction battery. I have replaced the 12v battery twice (96k & 191k), which I bought from Toyota. Still on the original brakes. Replaced the brake peddle sensor (100k), water pump and right front wheel bearing (187k). Replaced the headlight lamps once (I have the headlights on all the time).

Had a service done at 110k which included new spark plugs, drain & fill the hybrid transaxle fluid and engine coolant, new serpentine belt and new PCV valve. The engine coolant was drained & replaced when the water pump was replaced, along with a new serpentine belt. Need to replace spark plugs and the transaxle fluid now that I am over 200k.

Added aftermarket shims to the rear wheels which eliminated excessive inside tire wear. I change both air filters as needed. I added the stiffening plate right after we bought the car and added the extended seat brackets (6'5" & 240#), which made the longer trips much more comfortable. It has been a good little car for us. Now with a few years and miles on both the car, and us, each trip is a gift. Waiting to see if the 2016 Prius might be a tempting upgrade.
