Injen performance intake for Prius C - review

Sorry to bring up an old thread, does this Injen fits into 2012 Prius C?

Very skeptical looking at dyno chart. With OEM box/filter at WOT intake pressure is -1.2-1.5psi. With filter removed it goes to -0.6-0.9psi. To provide 10% gain as in dyno chart the intake pressure should go to ~0psi; hard to believe that streamlined intake with OEM throttle body and any filter (even high performance one) will allow that.

Also 74.5 HP for OEM set up looks artificially low. We were getting readings in 80.9-82.2 range. Something else must be going on: dirty filter or discharged battery?

 

Dyno charts on hybrids are virtually useless. Sucks. All I can say is the sound is awesome and low speed pickup is improved.

By any chance do you have Torque/OBDII plug? Could you get the intake manifold pressure readings?

 

I have torque but have yet to re purchase a bluetooth obd2 reader as my old one got trampled.

This one is mini, the one I have now sticks out too much.

Correction: the values quoted above are not in PSI, they are in In/Hg, so they are ~1/2
So under normal driving conditions intake manifold pressure -0.75 psi

 

I have a bluetooth obd2 setup so what number are we looking for and under what conditions?

 

Intake manifold pressure (Boost) at WOT hard acceleration conditions.
It reports in psi but then it switches to In/Hg. With OEM box/filter it reports 1.5; about 0.6-0.9 less with filter removed.

 

Tried to do it but pretty hard to screen shot the phone and their logging was little to no good. I will try again this evening as well as tomorrow.

I'll try it with another type of gauge as well.

Those are all floored at wot. between 35 to 55 mph.

 

Just installed the Injen, butt dyno feels the better acceleration.

Speed is irrelevant, as we are looking for peak "boost". 0.3psi is ~0.6 Hg/In, so Ingen as good as stock box w/o filter. On stock practically clean filter with 5k I was getting ~1.5 Hg/In, so the difference 0.9 Hg/In or 0.45 psi. So the gain is 0.45/14.7 = 3% or 2.27HP.

Kinda curious how much gain you are getting from free flow muffler. If you have really flat road, try to get the guestimates for WHP. I took my car to landfill to get it weighed, and with accurate weight. Torque was reporting peak at 80.5-82.2. That was on green engine but with temps in 50s.

 

Some updates on the injen, the sounds it produce at high RPM sounds is awesome, 100% better than the air box whinning. Couple with the TRD exhaust sounds sweet.

Definitely feels better on the acceleration, going to do a century run test again and report back here.

When going slow, the FC seems alot better than with the original air box.

One thing I observe is that the exhaust smells different now.

 

do not know about the exhaust comment but pretty much everything else I agree.

 

I've always been curious about this thing... so does installing it "damage" the car at all or affect it negatively? Also, for someone who doesn't know anything about cars, how hard is it to install?

 

Worst case would be shorter oil change intervals from excessive particulates in the oil (which I have not experienced). The install is less than 30 minutes and very easy. If memory serves correct, you'll only need 10mm socket with extension, Phillips screwdriver and yup.

 

Just alittle update, manage to shave off 1 second for my 0-100kph from before mod of the injen.

 

Sounds about right. My results concur

 

2 1/4 HP isn't enough to improve 0-60 by 1 sec. What is your time?
