I think I can only remember 2 recalls on my 2010. One was a software upgrades, and the other was a component that I cannot now recall what it was.

Personally, I suspect that the dealers make out on recalls. The manufacturer gets back-charged whether the part was defective or not. In both situations, I could not detect any difference before and after the service. That is not to say that some recalls are not legitimate. GM's ignition switch was "for real" apparently.

I am very satisfied with Toyota's initial quality, and the continuing reliability. I am especially pleased with the HV battery in my 2010, which is now out of warranty (110,000 miles) and is showing no evidence of decay. For that reason, I would be very reluctant to change to another chemistry, if given the chance.

Let's all hope that the G4's delay will insure that Toyota markets a G4 that is free from first year defects, and proves as reliable as the G3.

But as deadly as GM's of late? The whole brake scare with the Prius was a nonevent compared to the ignition switch disaster and the ensuing body count.

Well, when people use a cinder block as a key chain accessory, it's Darwinism at play. :ROFLMAO:

I think the family in that Lexus would beg to differ, if they were able.

true, but that was doubling up non oem mats, not a factory defect.

Wasn't the first G3 software update somewhat motivated by the Californian's assertions of a run-away Prius that were later determined to be fraudulent?

Golly folks. I did not mean to kill this thread.

    Hey, I'll add something.

Kudos to Toyota for being (from what I can tell) the only 2015-model-year hybrid car manufacturer in the USA that continues to include a spare tire.
(Note that *no* plug-in or electric vehicle in the USA comes with a spare tire as far as I can tell)

The inclusion of a spare tire was one of the major factors in my choice to go with the 2015 Prius over a 2015 Accord Hybrid.

Do you think Toyota will continue to offer a spare tire in the Gen 4 Prius?

That's a good point. Between the spare tire and the overall cargo space, the Prius still has an advantage over the competition. I'd be very surprised if they gave up that advantage for the Gen 4. However, the redesign is kind of a wildcard. Were they able to do it without compromising utility? If the battery is smaller and the hatch is a bit flatter, I can imagine an increase in usable cargo space. A lower load floor would be a nice improvement.

Okay this is not strictly on topic but it seems at least BMW thinks PHEVs are the way to go:

BMW Developing New Electric Drive Architecture - HybridCars.com

Here in Europe, BMWs are very much within reach of ordinary folk and reliability is as good as it can be for a German car. The only issue has been expensive servicing costs but again, they have started to sell service packages which makes costs more predictable. It would be interesting to see what they come up with.

Agreed about the spare tire! They're priceless in an emergency. I'm with you too in hopes that Toyota doesn't abandon them.

fwiw, some spy shots of the 2016 Accord were published by Car and Driver last week. That car will be a carryover and probably arrives in September.
If talk and spy shots aren't 'heating up' in September about the 4th gen Prius, you'd have to wonder if it's really coming,

I was going to say the 2015 Civic Hybrid has one, but I guess not. Snip from the (Canadian) specifications page:

Ah, crappy video. Missed opportunity. Could have been so much better had they parked and got a full body shot.
