ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS ILLUMINATING

    2006 Prius with 145K miles. This has been an ongoing problem for several years which usually will correct itself after multiple times pushing start button. Occurs every few months. (This has also happened when the engine was on and we were driving which complicates things) Note1: We always press the brake pedal when we turn car on. Note2: It is not cold outside. Note3: We do not drive with lights on. Note4: Not the valet switch. Note5: Changed battery in fob. Note6: Original battery pack is good per mechanic.

    Mechanic advised us to replace the 12V battery, which we did with $300 Toyota battery. Thought the problem was solved but it occurred again yesterday.

    Mechanic is nervous about the computer having a problem. Yikes. Any input is appreciated as we are not sure what to do [​IMG]....thank you in advance.

    Maybe you need to get someone else on it, a mechanic (or dealership) more versed in Prius? If there's warning lights on, with the right equipment/software, they should be able to recover codes to clarify what the problem is.

    if you spent 300 on a battery from Toyota why didn't you pay the dealer to check the car out at the dealer before the battery?

    It is discouraging to spend based on a dealer's statement for an expensive battery and then that be only part of the problem. Good luck.

    welcome! as advised above, you need to have the codes read at the dealer. if you have done, please post them here. you still have a year and 5,000 miles on the hybrid warranty, don't waste it.

    Regarding your Note 1, I think the problem is that the brake light switch may not be operating perfectly. Park the car so that you can see the brake lights illuminate in your rear view mirror, then press the brake pedal to see if the lights come on. If they come on, then press the POWER button to see if there are any problems getting the Prius to READY.

    If the brake light switch is not working perfectly, then have it replaced.

    I also think that the problem you experienced after the Prius became READY and you were driving is a separate issue. How often does that occur, and exactly which warning lights appear when this happens?

    Thank you for your response. We have been using an independent repair facility and elected to take it to the dealer based on all these posts. You were correct about an issue with the brake light switch. I do not know the details as my wife took the car in, but the problem was diagnosed as dealing with the brake switch of some kind; new part on order and the entire diagnosis and repair is being covered 100% under warranty! We did not expect this--thank you ALL very much. Great job!

    The brake switch is covered under warranty for a 2006 Prius? Since this was posted in a Gen III forum, did you fail to update the vehicle under your "lack of a picture" avatar?
