Trouble with prius

    2005 Prius showing 299,999 miles.

    Bought car with the the red triangle light and vsc light.

    Installed reman high voltage batt.

    Drive car without as much as a hiccup for approx 1200 miles.

    Brake - check eng - (!) - abs - vsc lights all come on. And around every 250 miles the red triangle will come on.

    I unhook the 12v battery, let the computer reset and the red triangle goes out but the others stay on. And I'm good for another 250 or so miles.

    The 12v reads 13.8 with car on and 12.7-12.9 with it off even after I let it rest for a few hours. Reads the same even when disconnected from the car.

    Only other weird thing is occasionally the driver window switch will not work properly. I have to pull the switch all the way to the auto up position for it to go up at all.

    Any input would be helpful.

    1. Get Mini VCI so that you can retrieve the DTC logged by the engine and skid control ECUs.
    2. After the 12V power is disconnected, the driver's side power window switch has to be reset. Starting from a position where the window is half way up, fully close the window and continue to hold the switch in the up position for a few seconds after the window has closed. Then the auto function should be working.
    3. If you are already aware of #2 above and you are saying that the window switch is intermittent, then you probably have to replace that cluster of window switches at the driver's position (I don't think it is possible to replace an individual switch.)

    welcome! could be a poorly done reman, where did you get it and what is the warranty?

    A local guy rebuilds the battery's. With my core and him doing the install it was $1000 with 1 year warranty.
    He had his computer hooked to it and showed me where all the cells were good. I'm unassuming he was using the mini vci?

    Bummer. For $1000-$1200 more, you could have gotten a BRAND NEW HV Battery pack from a Toyota dealer, who also sells online. You would have to make sure they would sell you to, as some dealers unfortunately won't. Also, you'd have to pick-up, as dealers won't ship this part, and you'd want to bring the core at the same time too.

    Rebuilding the HV Battery is like whack-a-mole. Another module or two will fail, at any time; likely the worst possible time according to Murphy's Law. Poor reliability, but a cheap temporary Band-Aid fix. Rebuilding Gen2 HV Batter packs isn't so good now a days b/c the modules are so old. 2004 module = 11 years old. 2009 module = 6 years old. You don't know which module you are getting, its longevity, and besides, all of your modules in your current pack are OLD and wearing out too.

    Get any mini-VCI; version doesn't matter as you can always find the latest hacked copy somewhere. Amazon.com: mini vci

    Ideally you are using a Windows 32bit OS (XP or 7). This should be a spare junker laptop, that will only be used on Toyota's for diagnosis purposes; NEVER use this laptop for email, banking, bill payment, etc. ASSUME the hacked software has malware and is tracking all of you keystrokes and website visits. That being said, many have had no issues w/ the hacked Techstream software in using it to diagnosis and perform maintenance on our Prius or other Toyotas/Lexi.
