Here in MA the temperature hit a beautiful 83 today on my drive home from work, so I figured I'd put the air conditioning to the test. I had checked everything out before I bought the car and all was well, so today I wanted to give it a 'real-world' test. I hit the Auto button and the light came on but went out again as soon as I took my finger off it. Same deal with the fan button, A/C button, etc. So the lights worked, but only momentarily when I pushed the button. I hit the front defrost button and it stayed on, then I tried a few more of the buttons again, and the A/C cranked up and worked as if nothing was ever the matter. I'll try it several more times over the next day or so, but I'm wondering if there is there some trick to it that I hadn't read about. Or is this something I need to get checked out (always fun when it's an intermittent issue).
this is the state of toyota hvac. that's why i stay with manual controls. where did you have the temp set?
Interesting. I thought of that, but I couldn't tell what the temp was set at unless I held the button down. When I did, it showed 77 or something like that from one of the last cold mornings we had. But you can't really adjust the temp if the unit isn't on, can you?
Okay, thanks. I guess I'll have to experiment. I'd much prefer to think it's the weirdness of the system rather that something being broken.
I can handle weird. I don't like broke. I'm continue poring through all the threads here. FWIW, GPS seems fine thus far (I just haven't figured out how to turn it off when I get where I'm going). And there's nothing on Entune that even interests me, so that's a non-issue.
This is how mine works: Hit the auto button, set the temp by rotating the outer ring, and let it do it's thing. If you adjust the fan speed, the auto feature shuts off.
Sometimes a seemingly complex problem is really just this simple. I can attest to having this issue crop up from time to time, and it's always because the "Off" button becomes depressed (sticky residue perhaps?)
