My 2004 Prius does not have an alarm system. The other day while locked in my driveway the horn began to sound on and off just like an alarm that has been tripped. I do not have an alarm system on my Prius. It would not stop after unlocking the vehicle. It stopped only when I started it up. What is happening here? Thanks.

Panic mode triggered on your fob (red button)? I used to have that happen with my Audi but not yet with my Prius. The button would get pressed by other keys when I sat down in my family room next to the garage. No alarm necessary - I think we all have the panic button.

    Tex,
Just to test, trip your PANIC and see if it's the same sound.

I hit the panic button and nothing happened with car locked and unlocked. Someone else on another forum mentioned that it may be a failing 12v battery and I should have a load test done on it. Anyone else ever hear of this?

It worked.......you have to hold the panic button down for 2 or 3 seconds, then the horn starts to beep. This is not in the owner's manual...as far as I could tell, so it looks like this is what happened to me as far as my original post is concerned.Thanks.

You need to HOLD the panic button for couple of seconds to get it to work.

Edit... ok.. seems like u already figured it out...

At some point there was this annoying pulsing car-horn-alarm going
off outside, which I didn't think about too hard until I realized
that it was closer than I thought, and then realized that I'd sat
on the red button in my pocket. Then I was like "oh, *that's* what
the horn in the prius sounds like??"
    .
Fumbling out the fob and hitting "unlock" shut it up.

I've been told by two dealers that my 2009 prius alarm goes off and it's something I'll have to live with. I have paid three tickets totaling 375.00 for the alarm goes off and the police have to respond to it. everytime it trips the fobs are laying on our table. listing on craigs list. going back to fords.
