I was looking at dash cams yesterday, but thought nothing very exciting ever happens to me so probably not worth it.

Never thought I'd say this, but I was hit by a windshield of a golf cart on the highway is morning.

There was a truck hauling 3 golf carts on the highway at 65 MPH, hit a bump and the plexiglass windshield of one popped out and landed in front of me. It broke into several pieces and thankfully I was able to slow down and avoid most of the big pieces. But one smaller chunk bounced and hit my bumper and gouged the paint, left aanother 4in mark on the clear bra. Could have been much worse.

Thankfully the truck had a big sign on the back and I was able to call them and they will take care of it. I got an estimate of $1k to fix and repaint the bumper then replace the clear bra, which is half that cost.

So maybe a dash cam is in my future. Or a lot of bubble wrap...

Dash Cam Talk is a good source of info
When someone turned left directly in front of me, causing $7k damage to my nearly new PIP, I got a G1W-C and later replaced that one with an A118C because I like it's form factor better.

Thanks, That's actually the site I was looking at yesterday :) Do you have yours powered by the plug or did you hard wire it? I thought I saw some one on here with it hard wired. I'm trying to figure out if I could hardware it since I have a home link mirror with power right there already. How do you like it so far?

I hardwired into the dash fuse panel, with a 12v/5v usb adapter. You can get those from dx.com or ebay for $5-10.
Luckily, I've not needed the footage, but I do check the flash card about once a month just to verify that the cam is still recording properly.

my carbon fiber "itch" got replaced with more plasti-dip.

was able to safely remove all buttons and change some of them too.

since I can see my parking LEDs through my plasti-dip headlight eyelids, figured why not and do the power button.

all put back together. a bit more cleaner. I miss the bright green hazard, but wanted something more unified.

I went to the junk yard and pulled a visor with grey Homelink module and started fabbing it to fit in front of the map light console. I tested both units using a 9v battery and they're working.
Got 2 because I'll probably have to do one for the GF's Prii too.
Now, I need to figure out how to remove the map light console so I can tap power and finish my install. If anyone knows or can point me to a "how to" thread, I would really appreciate it.

Couple teaser pics for now and I will do a proper write up when it's working in my car.

It's held in place by the same clips that are used for the rear hatch & door panels.......give it a gentle tug down

    Thanks man!
I pulled the console down from the corners and found an always on wire in the map light connector that I should be able to tap into for power, so I can finish this thing tomorrow.

Homelink is done and I hear a Goose Island IPA calling me :D
It's pretty simple, but fiddly to get it all together and working. These visor modules are built to fit with only a thin layer of foam/fabric between the fascia and the electronic module. Making the fascia fit right and the buttons work, with the 2-3 mm thick plastic was time consuming trial and error.
I'll do a write up and more pics of the process later.

<edit> I tested it today with a rolling codes Genie opener and it works </edit>
