When do I need a service?

Maybe you just ignored your screen, it's mileage driven and tells you about services due every 5 thousand miles-OOPS just looked at your address, sorry, haven't a clue about Euro spec cars.

 

Assuming your Surrey is not just down the road and over the Port Mann bridge from me:

Maybe Brit spec Prius don't have maintenance reminders? Canadian don't. Have a look in the booklets that came with the car.

Do keep in mind: the service interval are governed by distance travelled OR time, whichever elapses first.

 

Some markets do use kilometers.

More likely it is just penny pinching in not having to program the interval in for smaller markets. Oil change intervals differ between. Europe is going to have longer ones than the US because of the lower sulfur in the gasoline.

 

even though we get a maintenance reminder on the dash every thousand miles, my dealer estimates how many miles you've driven, and starts calling when they think you've done 5,000. they're usually wrong of course, but if they get the first one right, you do think the plug in is sending out signals.

 

It is always good to read the owners manual; ALWAYS.

I hate to say this but.......IF that really is miles and not kilometers AND they come from the factory in that area with conventional oil instead of synthetic AND the oil has never been changed since it was new........you might be WAY past the recommended change interval. Maybe 5,000 miles past or more.

Honda's got a service alert that's more advanced. It counts down in percent, so you know how far you're along between services. It's apparently not just counting distances; appears to monitor several factors.

When a service is due it shows a letter/ number combo, which you can equate to various services, explained in the owner's manual.

Maybe wishful thinking, but should cut down on service department upsells.

yes, you should check your tyre pressures regularly until you get a feel for how much leakage you have. i have learned that mine are sealed well, and only lose a couple psi in a month. so i check and refill monthly from around 39-41 to the 42/40 i keep them at. the toyota tpms will let you know when they are way below spec, which is oky to prevent an emergency, but they don't tell you the pressure or which tyre is low.
