Car has impeccable dealer maintenance records and was in only one accident (I rebuilt the car and it has an R title) with the total cost for parts and labor to repair of $1619! I have the receipt and 2 photos of the prior damage for your viewing , so its just like any other one owner car you might buy where the owner had an accident and paid out of pocket to avoid it showing up on a Carfax report. The only way to absolutely avoid buying a car without prior damage is to buy a new car. You could spend $13,000 on a comparable pre-owned Prius with 59,000 miles from a dealer and still have absolutely no guarantee of prior damage or buy this beauty and save thousands!*Great opportunity to buy this rare touring model, car will be worth thousands more after gasoline prices rebound!
*Please inquire with any questions or to set up a time to view.

Is a R title car similar to a salvage title car? Where the insurance company paid off the car and calling it totaled?

Yes. Insurance company's today settle more claims then they did years ago because people negotiate to settle and not accept a repair and in this case, the car was bumped in the front bumper cover and rear cover resulting in $1619 in damage.

If the damage is light, why did they have to issue a Rebuilt title? Don't they normally have to consider the car a total loss, pay for the entire loss, before the new title is issued? I don't understand why a car seemingly worth over $10,000 by your estimates be considered an insurance "total loss" candidate with only minor $1619 damage? They would have paid you $10,000+ instead of paying out $1619 to repair it and give it back to you repaired like new.

My comments mirror JC91006. $1,619 in repairs is nothing nowadays (The plastic bumper itself with paint & labour is 1/3rd of that cost). Why was it issued a "rebuilt" title with only $1,619 in damages? Also, you repaired it out of pocket, without involving the insurance company. Why would the title change?

I bought the car from an insurance company after inspecting it with minimal damage. Once the insurance company settles a claim, they issue the salvage rebuildable title which can then be used to issue the R title...if the damage is really bad, they issue a "parts only title".

This is how it is in Pennsylvania but Ive seen cars like this in other states that have clean titles, are rebuilt and sold with the same clean title. The insurance industry has changed, its not like it was 20 years ago where everything was considered "totaled" and they had to rely on the mercy, timetable and usual extra cost of Joe body shop.... They fix a fraction of what they used to also because its now a global market and the damaged cars are sold for thousands more than what they used to....As I said in the original post, I have the before pics and the receipt to repair the car.....If your interested, i can send them to you.

Could you post the "before" pics and damage estimate?

Thanks. Any indication how much the frame was pulled? Was the car re-aligned?

From the damage you are showing, where the bumper barely sustained any damage at all, I'm surprised to see the frame needed to be pulled. If there was significant frame damage, that may explain why the car was totaled by the insurance company.

The language you used on listing this car, makes it sound like this is your profession. Buying cars at auction, fixing them and reselling. The way you listed the car almost made it sound like you were the original owner and you had the car since new. Even stated this was a non smoker car, had only 1 accident......even though this was purchased at auction.

    Ohhhhh.

See, the way you worded the ad, it sounded like you were the original owner. This is why we were all confused.

Ok so you bought a rebuilt car from the insurance company and repaired it yourself and re-selling it.
