Looking for Driver's side window weatherstripping..

Hi- the clip wasn't behind the frame, but either way the parts dept of my local Toyota dealer sold me the clip I needed- they pulled up the diagram as suggested and identified it as 90467-10161 for anyone else who should ever need to know!

So, some of the rubber has broken off for me. If I leave it like this, what will happen? Will rain go into the door? I've had my car out in the rain quite a bit already and it doesn't seem like water is sloshing around in the door anything..

I'd rather not replace this if I don't have to

 

I live in Oregon where it rains... A LOT lol. Although I'm not proud to admit it, but all four doors have failing weather stripping due to it originally being from Arizona and it's 100+ degree weather, and I have yet to replace them...

It's on my list TO DO, but have not yet gotten around to it sadly. All I have observed that there is a run off that leads all water down through the door and exits out the bottom, AWAY from the body and chassis. I have yet to have any water invade my Prius (KNOCK ON WOOD).

I really hope I get to it this summer though, as I feel like I have been pushing my luck with this specific issue!

 

Don't be afraid. This is a very easy repair and the moldings are only about $25 each. The first one will take about 10 minutes and after you see how they attach the next 3 will be about 2-3 minutes each.

 

Wondering if there rotting because a rubber conditioner was never applied?

My 7 year old moulding in Florida sun still looks new but has seen many applications of Black Magic Protectant
since birth.

 

I just replaced my weatherstripping, it wasn't too bad. I skipped steps 2 and 3 (did not yank speakers off, did not undo the bolts)

Basically I just:
1. lowered the window into the door (of course),
2. used a chisel to pry up the old weatherstripping at the end of the door (by the door handle)
3. From there I just yanked and tore the weather stripping unit off. After a while it can easily be slid off to the right.
4. I could not get the old plastic clip out of the door. It fell into the door and I guess it will be jingling around in there forever. Hope it's not noticeable during driving!
5. I then slid in the new weatherstripping from the right, and slid it underneath the left mirror unit, and pressed down across the weatherstripping every few inches until I heard a snap in each area..

Also, the weatherstripping unit costs about $45-50 now

 

Nice photo and write up. I just replaced the rear and R front door mouldings. I replaced the L front door moulding last year. Last year I removed the speaker cover and mirror. This year, I did not.

To remove rear moulding I wrapped the tip of a 1/4" wide flat head screwdriver with duct tape to prevent scratches to the paint. Once the window was down, I used the tip of the screwdriver to wedge under the ends of the moulding to release the clip on each end. Then I separated the broken rubber from the inside piece of the moulding to remove. **Make sure to hold onto the inside piece to keep it from dropping inside the door. **

Place the new moulding strip in place and tap to seat.

On the front window, I did the same thing. The difference here is that about 3/4" of the moulding must slide under the mirror. To remove the old moulding, pry up at rear of door above the handle. Separate the pieces carefully, while holding onto the inside piece. Once it has lifted most of the way, slide back to pull from under the mirror. Install in the reverse and tap to seat. Much easier than removing the mirror, with the same end result. It also did not require me to remove the window deflectors, as the moulding slid right under it.

 

I did this on all four doors and it is much easier than it seems. The drivers door took about 2 hours because I took everything apart, even removing the mirror. After that I realized all you need to is roll the window down to remove the old stripping and the new just snaps in place. Didn't need to remove anything and did other three doors in about 30 minutes.

All you need to do is roll the window down all the way, tear the outer felt part away that contacts the window, then popup the ends where the clips are on the new stripping and tear the outer part away from the part that clips to the door frame being careful not the tear it all the way, because the inner part will fall down into the door. Once you have removed the old, the new strip just snaps in place, no problem.

I got the stripping on Amazon for about $42 each. Took about a week to get it.

 

Thanks to the contributors here, I was able to replace both left side weatherstrips in less than 30 minutes without taking off the mirrors/speakers!

 

Ouch! The price of these weatherstrips/"door belt mouldings" seems to have skyrocketed. The lowest I can find are $52 plus shipping (twice last year's quote in post #25). Does anyone know a cheaper source for these?

My weatherstripping on the driver's side (outside section Part #75720‑47010) rises about 1 inch when closing the window. It's not completely out and with downward pressure from the outside slips back into place. Is this a replacement issue or just a matter of glue/adhesion at the base of the molding? Would rather not spend the $50 on the replacement part. If it helps, this issue only started after body work was done on the door (and weatherstripping is fine on all other 3 doors). Are these two connected?

 

I vote its a body work issue and it maybe the exterior weather stripping is possibly not being held firmly in place?

If you have a friend that has a Gen2 (2004-2009) Prius and their driver's door did not have any body work performed, see how little the exterior weatherstrip rises when the window is raised, and how little the weather strip falls when lowering the window.
