How to Turn on 2015 Prius v (lowercase v) LED DRL light

    Hey anyone know how to turn on LED DRL light on Prius v (lowercase v) 2015 Package 3 up

    If similar to earlier v, there is a specific detent on the left hand lighting stalk.

    More mystifying Toyota resistance to Prius v DRLs... apparently by design.

    Its all in the manual, but operation depends on the system you have. Search the PDF manual for "daytime" and all will be revealed. In particular sections 2.3 and 6.2.

    There are a number of different systems for lighting, with different controls, (plus the Canada variations), so it never will be if you want to have the ability to turn them off.

    In theory, the rationale for DRLs is the added conspicuity they provide turns on (and in some conditions dims) automatically, requiring no driver intervention. The dialogue here describes anything but, including owners' and dealership techs' inability to come to grips with how to enable the "system."

    Expecting dealer techs to know how to do simple things is setting the bar pretty high. Reading the manual, OTOH, isn't a huge deal.

    I have to disagree with blaming the dealer techs for not knowing how to work the DRLs. It's the salesperson's job to educate the buyer at the time of new car delivery.
    Dealer techs are there to service and fix issues. They aren't expected to read thru every owner's manual and teach the customer how to operate something on the car... again, that lies on the salesperson.

    But ULTIMATELY it's the new owner's responsibility to read the manual... as vague as it is.

    How does a tech check to see if something is working or not, before and after service, if he/she doesn't know how to enable it?

    I never said the dealer tech is exempt from knowing how to operate any functions. But you can't blame the tech for not knowing it right off the bat as a salesperson should. They have to learn new information as each new model comes in. But most of the time, the good techs don't interact with the customers. it's the Sales people,Service writers, stupid porters, or the lazy technician who doesn't do much and always able to "hang out". The busy techs don't have time to come out and show a customer how to turn on the DRLs on their new cars. Again.. that falls on the salesperson at time of delivery.

    How do I know this, you might ask... my brother has been a dealer tech for well over 20years. (Toyota, Honda, Nissan). He learns to operate all the functions on new cars, but ultimately, his focus is what's under the hood. The technical stuff that keeps your cars running in tip top shape. He attends manufacturers training classes to learn about new technology under the hood. Not how to operate the DRLs and teach customers "how to". Dealer Techs are not the "one stop shop", they aren't going to sell you the car, teach you how to use it, and fix it all. Different departments have different responsibilities.

    You can say whatever you like about what dealer sales people should know. But the fact is they almost always know less than a buyer does about the vehicle. More often than not they give wrong information. They're no different than the clueless sales people working at Best Buy or any other commission-driven retail sales staff. They're not there because of their knowledge, they're there because they are willing to work for little or nothing on the hope of 1 or 2 good months a year. Most of them are gone in a couple years.

    I never said salespeople were smart. I just said it was them that should have shown the buyer how to use the DRLs.

    I just said it's not the dealer techs responsibity.

    Salespeople and techs are two different people.

    Did you turn it on, then go outside to look at it while the car was in Park? The DRL lights will turn on when you shift to D, have someone stand outside and check. Or, you might be able to shift from Park to Drive, then back into Park, to make the DRLs stay on.

    OK. I'll bite. How do techs check their work if they don't know how to operate (especially what are assumed to be "automatic") systems? How can they even do a legitimate PDI?
