If there were no synthetic, or 0W20 avail, I would rather wait to get some than settle for conventional or 5W20.

The intervals are 10k/1 yr, plenty of time to find or order oil and parts :noidea:

Liiving in Buffalo NY and frequently visiting Niagara Falls Canada it sounds like toyota would recommend I change my oil every 7500 miles :)

    Oil Properties Comparison

Visc 100c, Visc 40c, Visc Index, HTHS

    0w-20 M1
    8.7, 44.8, 173, 2.7
    5w-20 M1
    8.9, 49.8, 160, 2.75

    Pennzoil Platinum
    0w-20
    8.39, 42.6, 175, 2.6
    5w-20
    8.48, 46.8, 160, 2.6

    Toyota Black Bottle 00279-0WQTE 0w-20
    8.8, 41.1, 202, Unknown

These oils would be considered synthetic. They are highly refined crude oils.

    Pennzoil Yellow bottle
    8.6, 49.6, 150, 2.6

PYB is considered conventional oil. It is not as highly refined as the above mentioned synthetic. What portion of the synthetic oils would be considered truly synthetic (if any) is conjecture. They all look pretty similar.

I find this very odd - why does the Canadian oil change interval differ so much from the US one? It's the same vehicle...! Which one is right? Half the oil change interval is a HUGE difference!

Gonna baby and spoil that 73hp (hamster-power) toy engine.

I plan to bring it in at 5K & 15K and pay for an 0W-20 oil & filter change just to let the screaming hamsters soak in a fresh bath.

Last summer I got my oil changed at 8k while down in VA; we were going back and forth from Boston; no charge - said it was ok to come in before 10k.

It's 8000 km or 6 mo in Canada.

It is, a night-and-day difference. Our west coast BC climate has been crazy mild last winter, too. I like the Canadian schedule, anyway.

It's all marketing. Long intervals appeal to the target audience...to ALL audiences, but hip young urbanites the most. They don't have money or tools, they don't know how to change oil, they don't have to bother with it, and they're just too busy, darn it. I don't know anything about how things are in Canadia, but they do things differently than do we.

You can change oil at whatever interval works for you. I change mine at 5k mile intervals. Many change oil at 10k or beyond. The only difference is that the long interval changers have dirt in their oil longer than I do. It may be better for some things, not so much better for others. Personal choice, while we're still able to do that sort of thing.

At the 5,000 mile interval they rotate your tires. At the 10,000 mile interval they change your oil and filter and rotate your tires. If you want your oil changed more often than 10,000 miles you can do it but you will have to pay for it. You get 2 free oil changes under Toyota Care.
