Dear Forum... I know this is going to look familier but mine is different. I bought this prius and it runs and drives great, no issues until a couple weeks into ownership and the car refused to "ready" up. i figured out real quick it was the 12v battery....BUT instead of replacing it i was trying to be cheap and charged it to verify for sure, worked great for about a week until it wouldn't start the car again and gave me the "park on level ground" warning. i got passed it after a few presses of the start button but the master warning, VSC, Brake (!), and airbag lights came on. I replaced the 12v promptly and this did not remove the lights. 2 weeks later the lights are still there and I have tried resetting the brake/airbag lights via pins 4 and 13 and failed at getting the lights to go out. a scan tool will delete them for about 10 seconds. the codes I was able to pull via blink were: (!) 11 ABS 42 VSC 51 45 airbag 23 I cleared them with the "press brakes 8 times" method, lights remain and codes pop up VSC 51 airbag 55 57 23 UPDATE: Since the combination meter being replaced today so far i have not noticed the cd changer sound from under the hood... Still have lights everywhere on the dash. It should be noted that there were no codes at all until i started the car with a low battery that last time. I had all recalls and the combination meter replaced thinking maybe...so those should not be considered in the decision making...I did notice a cd changer like sound coming from below the headlight/inverter water pump, they assure me its normal, but i have driven prius before and have never heard it in other cars, loud enough to hear when driving.
the thing that seems to differentiate mine is the airbag light. most show just brakes and possibly abs lights on, i dont have the red brake light or ABS
The SRS ECU warning codes make me wonder whether your car suffered wiring harness damage from an accident, or rodent damage to the wires?
i can't visually see any damage, and no wrecks. this was sudden. Literally in the car with everything ok, then lights on.
OK, just got on Amazon and ordered a Mini VCI for $28 shipped from California. if it reads codes once it saved me $77. Hopefully it will work great for a long time and most of all give me the data i need to give the pros on here.
plugged in the techstream and got P3107 C1310 B1421 B1630 B1822 B1832 All seem to point to the airbag circuit, it was a cab and i did remove some wiring and i can try to trace it down. any places to start?
Check to make sure all of the wires that connect to the ECU are connected firmly. Some have reported wiggling yellow wires and solving problems that way. Googled the codes, they point to airbag ECU and various circuits in the airbag system like you said. If that doesn't work, you could try swapping the ECU with another one if you have access to a used one. I believe the ECU is mounted on the floor under the passenger seat. Hope this helps ya and best of luck to you!
B1421 can be ignored as that relates to the solar sensor used by the air conditioning system. B1630, B1822 and B1832 are logged by the SRS ECU and indicate the wiring to the driver's side curtain airbag, driver's seat airbag, and sensor on the driver's side, near the rear seat, apparently is shorted. C1310 shows that there is a problem with traction control due to a communications malfunction between the skid control ECU and hybrid vehicle ECU. This is why the brake system warning lights are on. P3107 is logged by the hybrid vehicle ECU and shows it has a communication problem with the SRS ECU. You may need to subscribe to techinfo.toyota.com to gain detailed info on the various DTC.
C1310 on the techstream said it was a problem with the SRS / Airbag ECU, liek maybe a grounded connection / loose connection when i de-taxied the vehicle.... I am going to check and report back.
I checked the connections to the wires under both seats and cannot find any ecu to make sure the connections are tight i predict a prius with an ill functioning airbag system for sale soon.
that's what i have been wondering, thanks for asking. i haven't noticed any pri with ill functioning airbag system for sale since 02/18/14.
got the same kind of fault with my prius, airbag light not resetting even when fault codes have been cleared
Did you willingly/knowingly buy a Taxi Prius? How much did you pay for it (in USD)? I don't know which would be worse: taxi Prius or a salvaged Prius.
