I am new to the forum but wanted to see what anyone thought of a 2004 Prius with 94,000 miles. It is for sale for $6000 and may purchase it as a second prius for our family. Overall, it looks like it has been cared for on the outside and kept under a shelter. It has been sitting for a year for sale and not sure how often it is being driven or placed on Ready position to keep the battery up. The local Toyota dealership said they would check it out for around $100 if I brought it in. The Prius we own is a 2007 with 135,000 miles and not a single problem since we purchased used with 20,000 miles. Any thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated.
Definitely spend the 100 dollars to have it checked out. And I think on an 11 year old Prius that may of been sitting for an extended period, your primary concerns would be the condition of both batteries, the 12 volt and the HV. Assuming it has it's original HV battery the reality that you might shortly be forced to consider replacement options should be factored into your decision to purchase. A new HV battery makes that $6000 Prius closer to a $9000 Prius (but with a new battery). If you can possibly accept that reality? Purchase away.
seems high for an '04, but you can only compare it to others in your area. do you know what package it is?
There are quite a few upgrades on your 2007 vs 2004. Make sure it has the equipment you want.....2004-2005 doesn't have a rear camera.
short answer is: no i am not shopping for one but i think used prius price has tanked since the gas price went down so much. it seems a high price for an 04, and for many cars have been sit for a long time, once you start driving it, things will break.
I have a 2004 with 238,000 miles and it rides and runs fantastic. I fully endorse this particular year, but the asking price is way too much. If you are serious, spend the $100 and have the dealer check it out. I think the car is worth closer to $5,000 and that is assuming it is fully loaded.
