VSC+ABS+Brake Warning+Handbrake Lights On after using V-Checker ODB II Sanner

    I have a 2005 Prius with 98,000 miles on the clock, two weeks ago, the engine check light came on and I plugged in a "V-Checker ODBII reader.
    Read the code P0420 and reset. Don't get bogged down regarding the P0420 code as this is just background to what happened next. The P0420 code has not come on again, reset was done last week.

    Removed the ODB reader and noticed the VSC+ABS+Braking+Handbrake lights on, car drives OK, braking not quite what was, notice kind of "afterthought" when the brake pedal released. The Ready light does not come on, but the car starts fine and drives . I am sure the ODB reader caused the VCS etc problem, because there was no issues in that area until the ODB reader used, and in the minute or so of plugging it in, the VSC lights are on.
    Code now present are C1203 and C1345.

    Tried the Pin TC + CH pin procedures without success. Took to an independent Toyota Specialist, he did manage to clear the lights, but they came back on within half a mile during test drive. Could not clear lights after that.
    He recommended changing the 12V battery, which we did, but did not clear lights.
    So, €250 later, I am booked into main Toyota dealer on Monday to let them have a go, they charge €45 for a diagnosis

    Any thoughts, could the ODB reader have set codes that only a Toyota main dealer can reset, or has a more serious computer problem been introduced.

    Was any brake work done? Before or after you connected the OBD2 code reader?

    Why are you not using mini VCI w/ Techstream ($25 in Amazon, eBay)?

    C1203 points to a problem in skid control ecu or ecu circuit.
    C1345 says not learning linear valve offset abnormality; initialization of linear solenoid valve and calibration undone.

    Thanks for reply.

    No, no brake work done. Nothing was done to car bar the use of the code reader to clear the ECO code P0420.


    I am now, Mini VCI Techstream ordered yesterday. Have also resurrected a Win XP laptop for use with it.

    Also ordered a Scanguage.
    The v-Checker is consigned to the bin, with a hammer through it so cannot be used again.

    Addendum to above. The Toyota Specialist did work on clearing the code, then replaced the 12v battery, other than that, no additional work.

    I'm posting out of my depth here because I'm not a Gen II owner and I don't have the Gen II manuals, but this reminds me of some similar functions in the Gen I ECUs. For example, there is a command to the Gen I steering ECU to make it forget its torque sensor zero-point calibration and return to its uninitialized state, and in that state there will be a DTC constantly present until the calibration procedure is done to learn a new zero point.

    My guess here is that the Gen II skid ECU must have a similar feature where it has to learn the offset of one of the actuator linear solenoids, and some bit of weirdness the v-Checker must have put on the bus got interpreted as the command to forget that, and the DTC will stay logged until somebody views the manual on techinfo.toyota.com and looks up the procedure to learn the value again.

    I'm just guessing, so no charge.

    Well, good news, Main Dealer in Ennis (Cunningham’s Garage), did the diagnostic readout today. Also cleared the codes and did the zero point calibration. Good value for €45.00.
    The Toyota kit is needed to handle the ABS, VSC codes.

    this happened to me and to adders in the forum
    connect the OBD sensor, turn on the car, connect whit the program you use
    clear the codes.
    disconnect the program, turn off the car and then remove the OBD sensor

    it happened to me wen i turned off the car without disconnecting the program from the OBD sensor first
    its important to disconnect the reading program before you turn off the car

    dont connect or disconnect the OBD from the car wen its ON
    only connect before turning on the car and disconnect after turning off the car
