Hey all, I have about 55,000 miles on my 2012 Prius C Three, not III, and it looks like my tires are due for replacement. Any suggestions on tires that will be better for ride comfort/handling and decent on fuel economy? I want the tires to last a long time too, so I do want them to wear well. I'm looking to keep the same tire-size so I can use the same OEM wheels (15"). I know my current tires are LRR - but I don't know how much of a difference that really makes... I think I'd opt for something with better ride comfort/handling, less noisy & better wear if it's not a big deal.
I had OEM Goodyear Assurance and changed to Michelin Energy Saver at 45k. I lost about 10% MPG for the first 1K miles. After 3K miles, I'm still 5% under the MPG I had with the original tires. They feel about the same now. Perhaps slightly less noise, but I can't say for sure.
I've read various threads saying hat the mpg, all other things being equal, will go down with new tires and then go back up again as tires get worn in. Any comments?
What are your current tires? What's their remaining tread depth? Do consider the same tire. They seem to have lasted, and as you say are likely chosen by Toyota for their rolling resistance. Also, any tire will get noisier as it wears. The changes are very gradual; they likely were quieter when new. So when you get the new tires, you're gonna think: yeah, that's better. But pretty much any tire will do that. Be careful: if you put too much attention into noise/comfort, you may end up blindsided by a mpg hit.
My current tires are the Bridgestone turrenza? I hate the tires. They haven't lasted that long as I've switched to winters for every year I've owned the car. There's about 5/32 and 4/32 at the "lowest points" according to discount tire. Any actual recommendations? Anyone heard of the General Altimax rt43? I'm not familiar with the brand but they are very afforadbLe .
I have a 2010 Prius 11 with195/65-15 Yokohama AVID Ascend tires on it. Quiet, good wet and dry traction, and excellent handling. They are LRR tires. I put the factory recommended PSI in them although they are rated for 51psi on the side wall. I tried running 40 in front and 38 in rear tires but it didn't make any diff in mileage or handling just made the ride harder.

In March 2015 the Bridgestone Ecopia 422 was replaced by the 422 Plus with warranty going from 65,000 to 70,000. As of July the origina 422 are being discounted are are getting in short supply. I just put the Plus on my prius 2 Three
