If you have added mud guards, do you think they were worth it? I notice Toyota does not list these as an option (and my dealer confirmed that). Who are they made by?

Yes, the mud guards are worth it. I also added reflectors (for appearence). Yellow on the fronts and red in the back. I purchased the mud guards on E-bay. The front mud guards are very easy to install. Kathleen
They're standard on our Canadian cars. I like mudguards cause they reduce spray from dirt, sand and leaves especially during autumn. However, if it's snows, you gotta clean it out.

Yes they are worth adding. We just had over 40 days straight of rain and lots of mud on the road where we live. They stopped a lot of junk from going on car body judging by how much was in the wheel wells.
Yes, they're worth it. Before our Prius looked like someone spraygunned mud on the sides, behind the wheels. Now it's much cleaner. Not an option in our region either, so I got them via eBay from a Toyota dealer in the south.
I have put them on my cars for about the past 10 years. I have seen a lot of paint damage, especially on the rear quarter, which is controled by the guards. I got all 4 on without removing tires and bought them off ebay.
I would also like to add that I just installed mine the other day and love them. We had a light rain the day after I installed them and they seem to do a great job of keeping the sides clean. I highly recommend buying a set. I bought mine from Sigma. They may cost a little more but their service is by far the best I have dealt with over the past few years. I'm buying all my Prius accessories from them.
I found them on EBAY for less then anywhere else. Got them in less then a week...and they were factory Toyota. Do a seach on EBAY and you will find a bunch of sellers...I think I got mine from J & S Accessories or something like that (got the Cargo net and Rear Bumper Protector from same guy). They work BIG time!
I just got my mudguards from toyotadepot.com, actually got them from one of their e-bay auctions. Total price US$44.95 shipped. Good folks, promptly shipped via Canada Post. I put them on tonight because it looked like rain. Three holes drilled for the back on each side, one drilled on each side for the front. The front flaps weren't an exact fit. They didn't quite fit flush against the metal part of the car. But they weren't too bad and they look OK. The back flaps were a perfect fit. I don't know if they were "genuine" Toyota or not. They were made in Canada. The hardest part of the install was working up the nerve to drill holes in my CAR! Yikes! The next hardest was taking off the back wheels. But that was good practice. Like many others, I managed to simply turn the wheels to make room for the drill on the front. Overall, I'd say the card handles better and gets better milage too. :blink: Just kidding.
They are an accessory and definately worth it. I live in So. Cal and we don't get the rain some of the rest of the country gets. But you only have to drive through some water run-off in the street to get mud all over the front and rear fenders. Well worth installing.
i bought my mudguardss on ebay also.......they were worth it.........gives the car a nice look..... under the instructions.....it says that the back tires must be off...so on my 1st oil change..i asked the dealer how much he would charge to install them...they did it for free! wow! oh yes......the new west kendall toyota in miami has definitely got my business! but the mudguards are cool.....
Does it increase the air drag? Anyone notice mpg drop in Prius? I had them on when I had my Celica and I did not notice mpg. Dennis

love my mudguards- on a black car they're almost necessary. much less dirt and other road nasties being kicked up onto the paint. no noticable mpg drop. look nice on the car. what else can ya ask for?
I echo many of the posts.. Nerve racking installing the first mudflap.. DRILLING INTO MY NEW CAR>> WHAT am I doing??? When I saw how easy it was, the other three was only half as nerve racking! I live in a semi-rural area, with my relatives down a dirt & rock road. When I see the mud caked on the inside of the flaps, I realize none of that hit my lower panels. Best thing I have done as a mod. Bought the flaps from Sigma, though later realized I could have gotten same stuff cheaper. But, no big deal.
We got our mudflaps just after buying our 2005 prius (October 2004) and they are definitely worth it. We drive over the Sierra Nevada's daily (7000ft) and they prevent the mud & slush from spashing up on the sides of the car.
