Every time I have to refuel my car, I get a terrible pain in my gut.

Is this pain caused by the high price of gasoline in my area?

    Should I buy a Prius?

    Very truly yours,

    Gas Pains in Goleta

PS: Just having some fun this morning. B)

    Dear Gas Pains,
You should never - and I repeat never - eat the shrivelled hot dogs at the gas station. Additionally, if the catsup bottle has the expiration date scratched out, do not use it.

I'm sure that by monitoring these two little items, you will see your gastronomical discomforts become a thing of the past.

As for the Prius, only beneficial and uplifting side-effects have been noted.

I was going to post a photo of our gas prices here in town. We're 20 miles from the next town, whose prices are about 30c less per gallon.

Premium, US$3.39. Regular, US$3.19. I'm sure glad I'm not filling up the Volvo SUV any more...

I had similar symptoms last weekend when I had to buy gas for my motorcycle at $3.499 a gallon for Premium in a small town along the Pacific Coast Highway. My Prius has the range to avoid those situations. It might be just what the doctor ordered.

I had a friend who had her Goleta removed and replaced with a Prius. She is recovering nicely.

Wow. I think it was something like $2.70 for regular here. But I've still got 3 bars on the tank, so it'll be another week or so before I have to fill up again. Not that I care what gas costs. I'm just surprised the difference is so great.

Ironically, Cambria is right on CA Highway 1. Of course, we don't call it the PCH this far north---I think that name is generally used south of Santa Barbara. But we'll be in that stratospheric price range soon enough, I suspect.

Most Cambrians try to fill up in Morro Bay or San Luis Obispo to save 30c/gallon. With the Prius, I've added 5-6 gallons on trips to those towns in the past couple of weeks.

Now here comes your pain relief: right now, we are at 4.7 US $ / gallon here in Belgium (taxes!). And, honestly, I think that's still too cheap. It still does not cover the real cost to the community of driving a car.

Don't feel bad- in Canada (Toronto) gas prices fluctuate between 5 and 10 cents per litre, per day (!).

That's about a $0.20-$0.25 change per gallon. Every day.

Fortunately, it's a simple pattern - always fill up at night! ;)
