Your 05/06? Prius has plastic trim rings on each wheel. Some say they add to the aerodynamics of the car and most just remove them to expose the full alloy wheel that's hidden below.

5,000 miles or six-months is the general recommendation, so it could be every six-months for you (depending where you live). Besides it's a good idea to have a Prius trained technician poking around your car every so often.

Please post your location in your profile and your Prius year/package in your signature; it will help answer your future questions.

If you want your warranty to be valid, change your oil every 5,000 miles or six months, whichever comes sooner, just as the manual recommends. And remember that short trips are harder on oil than long trips. That is, your oil is good for fewer miles if your trips are short than if they are long.

It's been suggested that the Prius could actually go 7,500 miles on a change easily. But the main reason for changing it sooner (in your case every 6 months) is because your warranty requires it.

And you have been designing variable-valve-timing gasoline engines for how long, now? :)

Keep your nice new car warranty in force. Change the oil every six months or 5,000 miles, which ever comes first.

I change it every 5000 miles, but, have you noted that the price of oil has been increasing as fast as that of gasoline? If it continues to increase I may switch to 6000 or 7500 miles, since the engine is off about 20 % of the time anyway.
