Longtime Forum reader/Relatively new member So, I just bought a 2012 Prius C and was looking to pick up a grid charger. Are there any senior technical members willing to build me one for a reasonable price? Or does anyone know of any company offering a grid charger specifically made for the "c" ? I tried Ebay and only saw Gen II grid chargers. Carl
I have searched dozens of threads, while there is lots of random mentions of grid chargers, most do not mention where they purchased them from, or they are using them in different year/Gen Priuses. One mentioned buying from the Priuschat shop for $399, which either no longer sells them or I cannot find it. Another member mentions online store hybridautomotive which does not have a unit for the Prius c listed, as far as I can see.
This is the one offered in the shop. Hybrid Automotive - Grid Charger - Hybrid Battery Rebalancer Currently they only have Gen1 and 2 chargers, but they might be able to help you out if you shoot them a message.
Preventative Maintenance for my main traction battery to get the best performance and longevity from it. "When installed and used regularly on a healthy hybrid battery, a Grid Charger will prevent or significantly delay the erosion of the hybrid battery cells. This battery erosion is what leads to failed battery packs and very expensive repair bills. A Grid Charger will deliver better vehicle performance as the rebalanced hybrid battery delivers more assist faster when accelerating; higher fuel economy as the car is spending less time charging the battery in the background; and increased EV function (for equipped vehicles)." Ah ok. I thought you were planning on leaving the car for a long period of time. But you are just thinking about the maintenance. Understood.
Bosch offers a well reputed unit; and you should query ebay. I picked one up for $100. and if you are talking gen 1 for 120 vac and gen II for 240vac then there's no wonder gen i's aren't there.; they aren't worth a dime, literally.
So what happens when you take the car to the dealership for any kind of maintenance and they find the Grid Charger attached? Would this void the manufacturers warranty? The answer is probably in their thread but I'm still reading Traction Battery Preventative Maintenance - Hybrid Automotive Chargers | PriusChat
