No way to remote start? Why not?

Yes, you can remote start GenII and Gen III.

I just wasn't sure if I interpreted it correctly.. i have a remote start on my Gen2 and use it to get the cabin warm before i start driving in this Canadian weather. Never needed anything like this when I was in SoCal.

Do you need to start your ICE in cold weather probably not .. but it can provide a bit more protection to the engine before driving it.

I always "warm up" the engines...and if it's cold outside I warm up the cabin.

You can't remote start if you park too far from the car. It only works if you are very close. In the lot 2 blocks away, there's no where warm to wait.

SmartStart lets you start your car from anywhere there is SMS or cell phone service. I have that AND my Viper 5706 remote alone will reach several blocks.

The most effective warming is seat heaters. They only take a minute.

Next thing I'm looking into.. my wife hates my cold leather seats. I need to look into my options for that as well.

I don't think it's possible, for anyone with a Fuelly icon (or similar), to just fire 'er up and let 'er run.

hmm.. i'm on fuelly and I let the engine idle past stage 2 (104F) before i drive off... i do that on occasions when I can't use the block heater or when i have a big hill to climb at the start of the journey. i find it more economical overall and less strenuous on the engine AND traction battery. :)

I give it 1-2 mins of idle of its warm out side
If its below 32*F i let it warm up till i get heat (around 5-10 mins)
