Prius ordered!

Enjoy the anticipation. You're lucky: I ordered my Prius just after Labor Day in September 2005 and finally took delivery on March 4, 2006 -- almost six months. (And didn't get the color I really wanted even then!)

Are you sure you are getting Magnetic Gray??? I thought they took that color out of the line until 2007? Perhaps something has changed but, I would verify with your salesperson that magnetic gray is available. Hate to see you wait 6 weeks only to be told that color is not available.

Some of the salespeople do not keep up to date on changes in availability - so it may be an honest mistake on his/her part. Or perhaps thay did put it back in the line for this year. I would double check now so as not to be disappointed later.

When I picked up my prius today, the specialist that went over my new car and I spoke he has had a magnetic grey on order for himself since september... he expects it in July, I asked him and said I thought it was out in May he confirmed it was but it is in high demand and short supply (as if the Prius as a whole isnt in short supply).

 

congrats and welcome to the waiting game!!!! I ordered my black pkg 8 on 2/27/06 and called the dealer today. They said that haven't had anything match up yet and should be another 30-60 days. That is right on schedule with what they orginially told me (60-90days). It is a small dealership and they only get 2-3 cars a month, but i wouldn't deal with anyone else. Gotta love small towns!!!

 

I just got off the phone with my salesperson to be sure my '06 pkg. #8 Magnetic Grey is coming... he told me it is, we are still looking at the mid-June timeframe.

 

The salesperson actually talked me into buying it at $500 over invoice, which of course they had to add their advertising fees, etc... and came out to a total around $27,2xx for a pkg. #8. At first all the sales people will give you the story "why should we sell it to you for under MSRP when the next person that walks through the door will pay MSRP or more for it?" but I didn't buy that, yeah maybe up through '05, but I see a lot of Prii out there on the streets, one just about ever other block it seems like. I figure the supply has to catch up to the demand eventually and then they will have to practically give the things away to get rid of them. I thought at least it wouldn't hurt to try and talk them down, and I think the thing that gets them is selling a car and making a few hundred or maybe even a few thousand in one hand, and nothing in the other hand... hmm, so how much were you willing to pay now? I was trying to get them to sell it to me at $28,000 but I couldn't argue with him when he offered it to me $27,2xx. He wanted to actually agree on around $27,7xx ($500 cusion) just in case it came with the security system upgrade which he claims to have seen frequently, but if it did not have any extra unrequested upgrades then he would sell it to me at the $27,2xx so I told him to just add the security upgrade anyway, I've heard of some people getting the HID lights stolen and I would hate for that to happen so the security upgrade might be nice to have.

 

I ordered a Silver Package #8 Friday and they said 8-10 weeks in the normal time until it arrives. So we shall see...

He just called me back today after having his sales manager make some calls, he told me "you can tell your friends to do some research before they start spreading rumors, we are expecting to have your car ('06 Magnetic Grey pkg. #8) around the end of May but I'm going to give it about 5 extra days so I'll say it should be here around June 5th". Looks like I might have one of the first few Magnetic Grey Prii running around!

Honestly, I hope that you do get Magnetic Grey Prius by the end of May, but given the delays and high demand of the Prius, I wouldn't be too surprised if we did end up seeing something of a delay.

Just picked up a 2006, package seven, two weeks ago in a beautiful silver/green. I haven't had a new car in ten years. My poor little 1994 Honda Accord with 198,000 is not happy with the new guy sitting right next to it. I only waited three months. I am having a blast. One of these days I will even read the instructions, until then I just fiddle and figure things out. The wait is worth it.
