Wow. I wondered when that would happen to one of us. I hope they'll help you out and now get the message that an odd noise coming from a car is in fact, not right! Glad you stayed safe.

I hope toyota will come out with TSB on this as my dealer has deaf mechanics (while under warranty).

I'm not under warranty. Told the dealer I'd give them $700 to replace it based on this thread and they said that it was fine, nothing wrong with the car. I rolled on their word instead. I'm actually in the middle of a trade on it. Torn now. It should be fixed.

Ok another update got the car back. The right side/passenger side cv joint was replaced. The ticking noise I have heard every time I stop while turning is unchanged. So the cv axel that failed made no noises and had a boot that was in good shape. The cv axel that ticks 20 times every time I stop while turning didn't fail. Or so I think it is the drivers cv joint. The two people that had axels replaced in this topic were the drivers side and they stated the noise is gone.

Ugh. I'm trading mine in! That's terrible that you still have the ticking. Will they do anything for you on the driver's side or is it back to the status quo? I'm upset for you, would be so mad when I pulled out of the dealer and still heard that!

I was one of those persons that had it replaced.

Ticking sound is back, louder than before and from same shaft or general area.

I have an appointment to have oil change in a week so I will bring up the issue with the service advisor.

This will be the 4rth time taking it to the dealership.

    Really becoming a headache.

how long did it take to came back?
i'm starting to think this is very common and harmless issue and most people just don't notice.

I found it impossible not to notice, was loud outside of the car and inside through the firewall. It became so bad for me that I'd shift into N to stop in my neighborhood because the clicking sound bounced between the houses. Was terrible. I felt bad that I bailed on the car but as long as Toyota continues to find no problem, I couldn't justify throwing money at it and personally, didn't want to drive it.

si12j12, where do you go for your service?
every time i bring this up to my service adviser at toyota carlsbad, i get turned down automatically for having lowered suspension

still gotta work on getting my TRD plus springs on there to challenge the lowered suspension theory with OEM

ha, who knows, might just go back to stock and get something new

I'm curious if everyone who is experiencing the ticking sound is lowered? @ST12J12 are you able to add a poll to the thread? Something like:

    - Have front ticking noise, car is NOT lowered (i.e. factory springs)
    - Have front ticking noise, car is lowered with aftermarket springs/coilovers
    - Do not have front ticking noise

I have the TRD springs on now and I have the ticking noise. it didn't start to have any when I had my stock springs on... I will have to time to put back my stock spring (at least just for the fronts) and let's see if it goes away or not... i'll post an update as soon as I get to it..

I put my stock springs back on and unfortunately the noise went away or was greatly diminished. I was hoping to hear the noise so I could get it repaired under warranty. Now that I'm about to hit 30K, I'm going to put my coilovers back on and suffer the noise and wait for an obvious solution or failure.

I believe it's part of powertrain warranty so you have 60K miles before it expires.

I have a lowered Prius with TRD springs and I am experiencing this same issue. My question is whether the Prius models with TRD springs from the factory are experiencing the same issue. Does anyone with TRD springs on a factory installed setup have these same issues?
