gen 3 hybrid battery cooling fan dust buildup

^ While I don't know for sure, I can't see that being necessary unless you start pulling out the battery. Just getting to it, say to check the fan, seems safe enough. And I wonder: would pulling the service plug cause some error codes or resets?

 

Does this fit on the inside or outside of the stock vent grille? If this is a PiP part, does it fit the standard GIII?

 

The filter snaps over the outside of the stock vent grill. Refer to the last photo in post number 19.
This part has been released for the Gen III Prius to mitigate excessive dust build up in the HV-Battery cooling fan, where the vehicle experiences very frequent ingress/egress from the back seat while the vehicle is running, such as a taxi.
I think it would also be useful in cases where the vehicle transports pets in the back seat.

Have you installed it? Does it come on and off easily?

 

I pulled out the grill over the fan inlet (integrated into the seat back): you need to push down on the seat cushion and fish a ratchet wrench extension down to a single bolt. It might be 12 mm, don't remember exactly, either 10 or 12.

Then you just wiggle and pull things off of tabs, it opens up pretty easy.

I just cut-to-size and pushed in a piece of vacuum motor filter material, friction-fit in behind the grill. I check it periodically by just examining, through the grill. It's collected a few seeds and pieces of lint, as far as I can see.

 

Not yet. I ordered it today (10/11). The cheap $3.30 shipping is through U.S. postal service. I assume "Mid Atlantic" is in east coast. I'm in California, so it would take a while to get here. You're in Texas, so you might receive it before me!

 

I received the filter today (10/17). It looks exactly like the pictures on Post #26. Very easy to install, it simply snapped on. I will report back in a few months to see whether the filter collects any dust

 

I found a picture for the seat cushion/grill. The seat cushion that Mendel referred to is 71540A (full part# is 71540-470xx where xx is for various color/cloth/leather) and the bolt is 90119-08C37.

 

Got mine installed yesterday. Not the prettiest thing but if it helps the battery, I will look the other way.

Below is my actual install. Other than it isn't gray to match my interior color, it doesn't look bad at all...

BTW, I went back to MidAtlantic website... In addition to G92DH-47010, they also have G92DH-47020, G92DH-47030, etc. I'm wondering whether the last 2 digits are for different colors? If you haven't bought yours, you might want to check it first.

 

It might be worth a few dollars because it appears easy to install and is not too ugly-at least it won't be if the colors match. I have the light tan interior and would not want the black. If I had a big hairy dog in the back seat I would certainly want one!

 

Darn, I should have read this before ordering the G92DH-47010. It's black, eyesore, and little filtration if any. More like protection "against foreign particles," as the crudely translated instruction states. The
G92DH-47020 is only $6 and G92DH-47030 is only $3. I could have ordered both for the price of G92DH-47010. But maybe they are not filters?

 

Image search for G92DH-47020/47030 only shows pictures of 47010, so I have no idea what those parts are (other than cheaper.)

All the above "filters" are black.

Sorry, don't know what G92DH-47030 is, yet.

 

Here's my filter 1 year after installation. The filter doesn't accumulate much dust at all. I seldomly carry passengers in the backseat. I don't smoke and have no pets. Maybe that's why the filter looks pretty clean

HORRIBLE noise from the fan, filter would have prevented this.......it was a candy wrapper....even though it'll only be me in the car, I'm still ordering a filter just to be safe

Another reason a filter is needed for the battery air vent.

 

Previous owner likely had small kids (or bigger...) in the back seat: it would take some effort to coax a chocolate bar wrapper through the grill. I've just tucked a piece of vacuum cleaner motor filter material in behind the grill. I keep an eye on fan speed and battery temp via ScanGauge with XGauges, and with/without the filter has no noticeable impact, ie: it doesn't seem detrimental to cooling.
