Hey everyone! I've recently purchased a 2010 Prius V and I'm planning to drive from Atlanta, GA to New York, NY and back in a couple of days. - I purchased the car at a Toyota dealership and everything seems to be in decent shape (mechanically and cosmetically) . I've only driven it a few times around town and I truly haven't had a chance to test it on the highway yet. This is my first time owning a Prius/hybrid vehicle. - Any recommendations on how I should drive it on the highway? Or what to keep in the vehicle besides common emergency necessities? I've also noticed that the car has two different sets of tires.. Sailun Atrezzo in the front and Yokohama YK580 in the rear. I'm still trying to figure out whats beneficial about combining two different sets of tires so any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks guys P.S: First time owning a vehicle with headlamp washers :O those things should be built into every single car! They're awesome!!
try to stay at the speed limit, and pack your car with food, water and warm clothes. a scraper is essential and make sure your windshield washer fluid is good down to zero. have fun in the apple!
This may be hard to determine since you bought the car used--you may not have service records--but you might want to anticipate a transmission service, engine oil service, engine air filter service and cabin filter service. The Prius has a maintenance reminder that comes on every 5,000 miles (on your dash) since the last time it was reset. Your selling dealership probably did an inspection, so brakes, etc. are good to go. You could also check the condition of the coolant and brake fluid under the hood. Fluids should be clear (not cloudy) and at proper level. Finally, the 12v battery could be tested for a good charge--who knows when it was replaced, if ever. Double check your tire pressures, including the emergency spare. Have your owners manual handy for any warning lights that may pop up.
