I usually keep my cars until they die and or are worth nothing. I have a 2012 Prius C I am happy with. I am thinking of trading it in while it is work something. I am thinking of a Scion IQ or Prius C or Yaris. What do you think?
so you essentially want to trade in the 2012 for the new model C? i dont know if that would be worthwhile.
If you tend to keep your cars till they die, why would you out of the blue upgrade to the same car, that has not had any major upgrades since the car you currently own… The only logical reason is to get a new warranty, but that does not seems to matter to you as you stated you generally keep your cars well past that time..
I'm sure whatever you decide you'll be obliviously happy. So I'm going to recommend you trade it in on a used rental fleet Cadillac Escalade. I'm usually not this specific in my response to similar questions.
From a purely economic point of view, the math won't come out in your favor. This is especially true if the current car is not paid off yet. OTOH, if the C is paid off and you can easily afford a new car every two years or so........I say go for it. By "easily afford" I mean pay the difference in cash or finance the difference over no more than 2 years. If it makes you happy, then it isn't a total waste. You can't take it with you.
I wouldn't bother trading in your c for a new c. True, there's a refresh design this model year, but it still has the same engine/battery, so no major improvements in mpg. I would say wait for the next gen c to come out first, probably in 3-4 years, or get a plug-in vehicle. Especially if you do a lot of city, or rush hour highway driving. Unless like others said, money is no object to you. In which case get whatever you want to drive.
