I have an 05 Prius with all options installed. However, my CD changer NEVER shows the song or album titles when playing a CD. I have both new and old CDs, so one would think at least one of them in my hundreds of titles would work if the system were functioning. My friend just bought an 06 Prius and he tells me that his only shows the song/album titles with a limited few of his CDs. What is the problem here and what can I do to correct it?
I have heard that it will not display the album & song names unless the names are embedded on the album as "CD text". Store-bought CDs don't contain CD text. However, many CD burning programs give you the choice to add the info on your own and include it on the burnt CD. Which means it will only show up on CDs you've burned, never on store-bought CDs. I haven't tested this yet with a burnt CD, but hope to soon. If anyone has better info, please post... mine is 2nd hand. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jpoel @ Apr 10 2006, 10:09 AM) </div>
The only thing to add is that only a few store-bought have the CD-text, so it's more than never, but probably titles you wouldn't get anyway.
And iTunes doesn't burn CD-TEXT for audio CDs, so you'd need a different CD-burning program if you want it. Note, however, that if you burn an MP3 CD from iTunes (not an Audio CD), then the title information will be displayed. I don't know, though, whether the 2005 models can play MP3 discs; the 2006 JBL system does.
i agree... store bought cds often don't have cd text. i use nero for my cds and cd text works like a charm.
Of the hundreds of CDs I've bought over the years, only one ("Glow" by Peter White) has had CD text. Nero and Roxio CD burning programs will burn audio CDs with CD text. Of the music download services, only Napster (which is owned by Roxio) supports CD text. David
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Armature @ Apr 10 2006, 12:22 PM) </div> RealPlayer 10 also will burn CD text. I just burned some new CD's for CarMyne last weekend. However, you need to go to Audio and press the text button to see the information. It is not included in small window that pops up when a CD track changes. Sure would be nice if it did.
Thank you for your help. I believe you are correct about the CD text. I wanted to know if my system was malfunctioning before I invested in one of those iPod controllers @$300.
Here are a couple of other threads on this topic: DougSlug: http://priuschat.com/index.php?s=&showtopi...ndpost&p=281193 Lil Mo: http://priuschat.com/index.php?s=&showtopi...ndpost&p=276199 Both come to the same conclusion. If you use iTunes, you have to take some steps to get songs downloaded from the Apple Music Store in the correct format. Please let me know if you come up with any other methods.
I have close to 2500 discs, and only a couple hundred, if that, have the text. Mostly SONY and their companies have it. And, oddly enough, a lot of independent ones as well.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(TJandGENESIS @ Jul 5 2006, 11:35 PM) </div> I was going to ask that TJ but I thought maybe my taste in music was woefully behind times, for of the six CD's in our Prius not one has text on the CD! Including the one I burned with iTunes! I'm paying attention from now on, LOL b
I just copy all my originals with Nero when I put them in the car. If they get stolen/lost/scratched/whatever in the car then it is only the copy AND I can get the CD Text.
