Greetings all. I've got a problem that has the dealer stumped. 2010 Prius TWOwith 67,000 miles. While gently braking in the final stages (<10mph) and turning, a ticking can be heard from the left front brake. It is a very fast ticking, and is proportional to speed. The frequency of the ticking is very fast, think of holding a pin into the cooling fins of the brake rotor. I had it at the dealer last week. They had it for 2 days, with the service advisor, manager, and director all driving it and listening. They ended up replacing the wheel bearing. No luck unfortunately. They've had the entire brake assembly on the floor and reassembled, no change. Tightened all suspense links, no change. The circumstances are: - mild braking -anything more than just a slight turn (maybe only to the right?) -slower speeds (<10mph) Any help at all? They've had it for 4 days this week, and I've heard nothing back. Luckily we purchased it used, with Toyota's certified warranty. They gave us a 2014 Camry in the mean time. Nice wheels! Edit: Just spoke to our Service Advisor. They've changed the caliper slide pins and bushings, with no change at all. They've got a caliper bracket on order that they're going to try. I haven't found any other instances on PriusChat or YouTube with this type of noise yet
Probably a faulty halfshaft on that side. There's a thread on this site that is very similar to your problem. Replacing the halfshaft seems to correct the issue.
Had this problem. Took it to my mechanic and be said it is broken off TPS sensor. I didn't believed him. A couple months later it quit working. Cost me $32 for sensor,$150 for reprogramming tool, and a few Gees to replace it. The yahoo who was mounting tires broke it off. By the time I found it out it was too late to get it back. Let me know if you need help.
I have the same ticking noise as you have described Cessna157. I tried cleaning all the parts of the left front brake and did not help. hope someone finds a solution to this...
If it would be the halfshaft or CV, wouldn't it tick during acceleration or coasting as well? in my case (and I think the OP's case), it only happens while braking. which is weird... and annoying
