I did the other day for about 10 miles until I realized that something about the car didn't feel right. Why I didn't realize sooner, however, is beyond me.

Yeah when I switch to B and forget to switch back. The most telltale sign is when your engine doesn't shut off at the light and "stutters".
Back in my rebellious 'experiementing' days I tinkered with B-mode for slowing to a stop. Occasionally I'd take off forgetting to switch back to drive. But I always knew something was wrong the first time I backed my foot off of the accelerator b/c the car slowed so much faster than usual. Few moments of confusion and I'd figure it out. Now that I never use B-mode it hasn't happened.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(rdenneyutmb @ Apr 9 2006, 07:50 PM) </div> Newbie question (my Prius is supposed to be delivered this week!): How do you shift out of B? I'm guessing you flip the joystick down to D. Is that correct? Thanks, Tom
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(qbee42 @ Apr 10 2006, 07:01 AM) </div> To go to D, you flip the joystick to the left and down. (Straight down is B.)
Correct! Just move the joystick back to D. Just make certain you don't mistakenly shift into R, or the tranny shifts into N
In a regular car, if you take off in low gear you'll notice it quickly because of the sound of the engine. In the Prius, accelerating in B feels the same as accelerating in D, you notice the difference, as efusco said, when you remove the foot from the gas pedal.
