2012 Prius TWO TTS 46000 miles and change. T Boned in front drivers side wheel and fender.Passengers side Sheet metal was pushed past the passengers side window frame. Car was purchased as a Toyota Certified car.

It looks like the front drivers side wheel and bumper cover took most of the impact.... Hod does not close drivers door barely opens, three of the four wheels took damage. It also looks like the front end is pushed towards the passengers side of the car. A total of 6-7 consecutive body panels will be replaced or touched in some manner... The car is at a Toyota Body Shop.

Initial estimate from my insurance company is $4k plus....

Since the drivers wheel took a good hit what all do i need to be worried about? My main concerns are the ice and anything connected to the drivers side axel...

I look forward to some good feedback...

    Thank you....

Looks repairable, mostly tin can replacement.
My/Your's concern will be front en alignment( tide roads, axel, shock tower, radiator frame structural integrity, twisted door frame.

I'd find out if the shop is going to do a laser frame alignment check before proceeding with any work.

The most important thing is to determine if the car will be safe during the next crash. Are all the frame, body and bumper pieces that are designed to absorb a crash by deforming in a carefully engineered and controlled manner going to be able to do it again? Have their bending in this crash compromised that ability?

Any doubt and encourage them to total the car.

My experience was with what I thought a trivial crash turned out, as the body shop got into it, to be more expensive than replacing the car. I was pleased with the settlement my insurance company made (and the accident was totally my fault).

Mike thank you for the reply. It is much appreciated and I will check on the laser frame straightening and go from there. Once the vehicle is torn down I will be posting the results.

Eric, I assume the accident was not your fault - you don't mention that in the post. Be sure to ask for "diminished value" from the other party's insurance company. Hopefully no one (including you) was hurt in the accident.

The accident was not my fault no one was hurt thank god. The other insured has admitted full fault for the collision. I am already working on the diminished value item.

Can someone confirm: That i have the right to demand that damaged parts be replaced with only factory parts. I am about to enter a battle about this and want to confirm..

Not necessary true. I had a Camry fixed at a Toyota body shop but due to age, the insurance would only allow recycled parts.

"Recycled" Toyota parts are still OEM. From personal experience I can say the dealer's body shop may use whatever the customer is willing to accept. When I had bodywork done on my Intrigue at a Pontiac dealer the choices were new GM, used, and aftermarket. The manager recommended against the aftermarket panels because of the fit. I had no problem going with the used panels as the car was old anyway.

Once the vehicle has been returned I do have a story to tell. All I have to say is that someone has earned my business for quite some time.
