Had to go to my Dad and no one attending to my car From what I read, someone had one start up after 60 days so Im hoping it will start but no prob, can jump start. Anyone go this long and can comment? Will update on Wednesday when home the conditions of both batteries. Left hybrid battery at about one line above middle.
hybrid battery will be fine. if you've never run down the 12 volt, it should be fine as well. i leave mine for 35 days every winter, even when 4 years old. and my 08 still has the original battery.
Mine will be 65 days when I arrive home March 17 th.. I have a 2 amp. Smart charger on the 12 volts. Hal
The longest I read from the search function/google was 60 days and started right up. Dealer said 12v would be dead in 2 weeks but theres folks who started the car way longer. SKS I think disables itself in 5 days ?
This was the first time its left alone and unstarted since I got it. It was used each day. Good to know hybrid batt will be ok. Is the 12v covered in warranty? Dealer said its 90.00 for new one. thanks.
the 12 volt has it's own specific warranty, usually pro rated. i'd be surprised if they sold you a new one for $90., they probably are thinking a typical car battery, but when the look up the prius part, find out it's $200. plus labor.
I'd move fast on that, before someone comes to their senses, lol. Seriously, someone got confused: the battery from the parts department will likely be around $200, or a bit more. Plus a charge that's refunded when you return the old one (core charge).
lol yea sounds too cheap, eh a salesman told me that, wasnt in service. Guess I will know tomorrow night when I return if it starts. thanks all for the replies!
Car started right up, lights were bright, hybrid battery, no change, still at same bars Thank you for the replies!
Good to know. Wondering what people that leave on extended deployments, etc have to do? Battery tender?
I am also wondering, since my Firebrid project will be down for extended periods while I am welding the two bodies together. For the 12 volt, I can always swap it in and out of my other 2 Prii, but I am wondering if I need to worry about the Hybrid battery while it is out of the car. Batteries and electronics all need to be removed during the MIG welding to prevent electrical surge damage from the arcs. Bill the Engineer
It depends on many factors, most significant is what condition your battery is in. A new battery is rated at 45 Ah, and the Prius has a parasitic draw of 0.013 A (I measured). 45 / 0.013 = 3461 hrs = 144 days. You wouldn't want to sit even half those many days because permanent damage to the battery will occur. If the car will sit parked for a long period of time, either disconnect the battery, or put it on a float charger/solar charger.
The manual states that you should drive the car for 30 minutes or 10 miles "at least once every several months". Will it take you longer than 3 months? A little bit longer should be fine, especially if you store it with at least the usual 6 bars. I wouldn't go more than 6 months, though. A nearby dealer might be able to charge it for you, although I've sometimes gathered that the charger for these batteries is something that's so rarely used that they ship it from dealer to dealer only when it's needed.
