Greetings, A while back, while on a trip some relatives had possession of my '09 Prius. All was well until I discovered a little friend had been visiting under the hood and lucky only left a small mess to clean up... A nice sized hole in the heat shield of the hood . In researching a replacement part on the used market the cost is around $170+. I'm planning on replacing it someday, however in the mean time I'm looking for a tape that would adhere to the fibrous fiberglass piece to make it less of an eye sore. Anyone have any idea what kind of tape I would be looking for? Duct tape branded tape won't adhere. Again lucky the only damage left was the hole in the heat shield of the hood. Thanks for any and all your suggestions. -Mike
Maybe just take it off (to avoid risk of overspray) and spray-paint it with some flat black? Gives the car character. We had a small rat under the hood last winter, for a bit. Great fun.
Remove the cover. Tape a sheet of grease proof paper over the hole, and rest on a suitable support to hold the paper flat. Spray into the hole from the top side with expanding foam from a builders merchant. When set, trim off the excess on the top, remove the paper and spray the area mat black. John (Britprius)
Check the cabin filter and open up the air filter cover too. Both are nice condo's for those little bastards.
get a vicious cat and don't feed it much. unlike my lazy bum cat which wouldn't hunt even if it was starving. doesn't help that the PO declawed him.
69shovlhed! I second the gorilla tape or the method BritPrius recommended. OR buy one on ebay from a salvage Prius or a local junkyard (search car-part.com), that is, if you absolutely must have a new one. You could always go on ebay and find a big "Toyota" logo or decal and place it over the gorilla taped repair Then add a fartcan muffler, and a few "no fat chicks - car will scrape" stickers on the back and you are good to go!
Sadly the gorilla tape won't stick either . Looking into the other couple of ideas once the weather gets a bit nicer.
