Owned my Prius for 4 days and this doesn't seem right to me. My "Passenger" light is always on, even if no passenger (or object) is in the seat. The airbag on/off indicator is also always on and picks on or off correctly. I would expect that this light should be off unless a passenger is detected and then it would also show the on/off indicator. I asked the service guy if this was normal and he said yes. Can anyone verify that this is proper behavior? Thanks!
Ha! That was going to be my solution as well. I hate stuff showing up that's not telling me something useful (to me).
That would make the 'off' indicator useless, as it would never be lit. What does the owners manual say?
It would be lit if there was a small passenger. I haven't completed reading the manual yet, but I did look for this specifically and didn't find anything.
Covering the Passenger Airbag|ON|OFF sections with electric tape is a 30 minute job. It's one of the main gripes with this car. Pretty telling that that's all we have to complain about.
Yes. If a light person is in the seat, the "airbag off" indicator will be on. If it's a normal weight passenger, then the "airbag on" indicator will be on. This is all good and proper, but if no one is there at all, I'd like for all three to be off. My main concern was that mine wasn't working correctly. Now that I know that it is I'll either get used to it or tape it.
2006 and newer Prii have that light which does stay on all of the time. I think it's pretty silly, but that's the way it is. Avi
I'm not aware that the sensor has three states (no passenger weight, light weight, heavier weight), instead if just two states (under threshold weight, over threshold weight). What leads you to believe the former case?
