Hello Hello! Happy 2015 to ALL!
"Dang, you've been driving a lot with that car!" so my Dad says...
I have piled on 3200 miles on my 2015 Prius so far since purchase in November.
Living in the city= too many miles.
Car is fine, and I constantly think about that "break-in period" from when you first buy a car with ZERO miles. Break-in period is the first 5k miles, yes?
Anyway, back up camera has been wonderful. We also have a 2013 Benz and I don't like driving it much anymore since I've become acclimated to driving the sluggy Prius. haha!
We drove to central florida recently for vacay as well. Packed on 2k miles there! Gas fill up with this car is dirt cheap for the Prius in my honest opinion.
We bought a queen sized bed with 4 under-bed rolling drawers from ikea and loaded it in the back of the Prius. Plenty of room was left, but it was a little awkward seeing out the back window! Oh, how the rear-view camera is a life saver during this time! :D
The car is way smoother on roads versus our sporty Benz car. Husband agrees as well and he even runs errands with my car most of the time when I'm home and not using it.
I am a little sad that the key fob doesn't come with a trunk open button. How many times can you recall having your hands tied with groceries and having to pop the trunk open?! UGH.
Speaker system is decent. There are some front and side blind spots that I have to be extremely careful and much more slower than usual when changing lanes or making turns at an intersection because of pedestrians or cars. I don't know whether to blame the pedestrian for running out in front of the car or for the Prius frame blocking my view. Luckily, I haven't hit anything or anyone- but lesson learned; DO take time changing lanes or making turns.
I thought for about 2 months straight that the Prius low beams were so dull that I planned to buy better bulb replacements, then one day my husband figured out that you must turn that headlight knob all the way and it will be on low-beam setting. The green light on the dashboard means it's on low beam. I kept mistaking it for High-Beam. Oops! Problem solved- low beams are very good in the Prius!
My car doesn't have auto low beams like the Benz does, so I'm worried if I turn car off with low-beams on will they eventually shut off? Anyone know?
My husband agrees the car was the best car purchase ever made. Very good on gas. A full tank of gas for the car is never over $25 (that's when gas prices were higher back in November. Now, it's never over $20).His car takes premium gas and costs around $50 a tank... both car tanks are about the same size give or take a little.

All in all, everything's been running well with the car. [:

I still have a lot to learn. This car has gotten me through 6 college last year and this semester, it's getting me through 5 more.

yes the headlight will auto shutoff after a set time. You can change that time - JUST read the MANUAL

Does that mean you drove 2 months with just the DRLs at night? If so, you had no taillights during that time. [cringe]
If you don't mess with the switch, the headlights will turn off in [0, 30, 60, or 90] seconds, the amount can be changed to match your preference.

If you touch the headlight switch after shutting off the car, then you override the auto-off feature. If so, be sure to leave the lights off. If you absent-mindedly turn them off, then remember and turn lights back on to set it up for the next trip, the car will think you have some specific reason to leave them on, and will leave them on, draining the battery.

Also, be sure to exit the driver door, this is what triggers the auto-off feature. If for some reason you exit the passenger door instead, the auto-off won't work.

I now wonder what percentage of people RTFM?

The 2012 PiP I just bought came with an unused manual in the glove box. I can tell it was not used because there was no crease in the cover or any of the pages. The car made it 33,000 miles before it was involved in an accident. I wonder if the accident would have been avoided if the owner had read the manual.

Anyhow, it should be forum policy to not answer any questions that are answered in the manual, or to reply to a question with the page number of the manual that the answer can be found.

I just don't understand how so many people can own such a feature-rich, expensive, and complex machine and not even bother to learn how it works.
    No

    PRETTY MUCH :cry::cry::cry:
    Embarrassing, I know!

I attempted to read that book. I threw it in a corner and forgot to do more research regarding the car. Whoops.
I have been too busy and distracted with so much going on that the manual has been my last priority.
Hopefully I get no more surprises after this. Oh, wait... I just figured out the rear windshield wiper can spray wiper fluid....
    Surprise again. :whistle::whistle::whistle:

    Thanks! Same to you!
Well, my husband left my car on overnight and thought it would shut itself off and lock the doors on its own.
Hopefully you don't feel so bad about what you might have done. LOL.
    :p

Oh man. You actually looked to see if that book was used.... I guess I better crumble the pages a little just in case.

Unfortunately a few of your wishes are available on higher models of the Prius (automatic low beam headlights and Smart Key System lock/unlock for the rear hatch). Congrats on the purchase of your Prius though!

A few things if you haven't noticed already

    • You can pair your phone via bluetooth for both handsfree calling and streaming music
    • You can enter the price of gas and the mpg of your previous vehicle in the small 5" Multi-Information Display (the one up top) to see your "Eco Savings Record" or how much you're saving per month
    • The steering wheel adjusts up/down (tilt) as well as forwards/back (telescope)
    • You can change the behaviour of the automatic door lock/unlock (i.e. whether it'll lock at 10mph or when you shift out of Park)
    • You can storage the cargo tonneau cover in the underfloor storage bin. You'll have to remove both the large and the small false floor but you'll see a cut out for it.
