I know that. The Nissan LEAF with its air-cooled battery has no issues except in the most extreme places like Phoenix and Texas.

  2. I bet the air conditioning would drain the battery. Must be fun getting stuck in traffic with one of those in Phoenix.
But how would such a battery perform in the near-arctic winter, e.g. -20F or colder? Would one even be able to use an all-electric?

It loses range just like the battery we have.

Make it two doors and plug-in, add the "PWR" drive mode same as the standard hash back.

As always, just a reminder, the folks at Toyota who could change the future Prius models do not frequent PriusChat and most likely, do not read English. So this can be a wishlist for you, but never any feedback for Toyota,

Just got 2014 Prius C last month and loving it. Old 99 corolla 210k miles and still going strong and dependable.
I am just wondering if it will be possible to replace the battery pack in prius C in may be next 8-10 years with better and larger batteries? Assuming by 2022, the same form factor size batteries can give 300+ miles on Electric. Question is, can the OEM battery pack replaced with better battries? Or the electrocnics in prius C is tunned to handle only the OEM type (and strength) of battries.
(Question is something like... can old desktop can handle newer faster memory chips or the motherboard has limitations?)

I am sure by that time there will be hacks and people will come up with working solutions. Just curious if anybody knows about the electronics limitations of the Prius C.

No and yes. In that order.

Do some searching on here. I has been discussed before.

ALL of the energy in a true hybrid comes from the gas engine one way or another; all of it.

A bigger battery only helps when you can plug it in.

It's going to be a crap-shoot. You can't really be sure whether such a replacement part has been engineered properly, engineered less-well, or engineered better than the OEM. In any case, Toyota won't look kindly on warranty issues in a car which has been modified with after-market components.
