Hi guys! Glad I found this site. In my 2007 Camry Hybrid there was a cheap way of adding a backup camera hooked up to the factory navigation. I was wondering if there is such a way for the 2004 Prius. Please advise. Thanks!
Coastal Tech has a module that will allow you to do this in an '04 I believe, but its not necessary cheap IMO.
Thank you! That was my fear. I've seen backup camera kits for $99 but then I have to find a spot to mount the LCD. I also saw a module on ebay for $180. I wish we had the option like in the 07 Camry where it's about a $30 project to add the backup cam.
I know. When we first got our '05 I started running the traps for a backup camera solution but soon got disenchanted by the cost of adding that as a convenience feature so I disengaged my pursuit. I suppose when I decide to ditch the factory radio I'll find a head unit that has a camera option. There are other camera to nav boxes out there but they are all around that price point.
Here is a pdf with detailed description of how I added a backup camera to a 2005 Prius. It cost about $200 and involved several hours of work. Hopefully this writeup can streamline it for someone else. I really wanted one, and really like the results.
