I have a white 2014 and would love to make the roof black. I really don't want to paint it though, in case I sell it and the potential owner doesn't like it. So I am thinking of going the vinyl route. The first person I emailed about doing it quoted me over $200, which seems like a lot considering I can buy the vinyl for less than $30, however I know the labor is where all the expense is. I'd consider doing it myself if there was a write up somewhere, but if there is I'm not seeing it. Anyone know of a how to for this process?
That is not a bad price as considerable skill is required to do this without air bubbles!. Not sure how easy it would be to remove. I think it would be a good look. Hal
Might do a search. I'm too lazy. But I know somebody on Prius Chat years ago did this very thing. Because he posted pictures and asked for opinions. And I actually did NOT like the way it looked. ( Kind of like a Skunk, or like it had a Mohawk). But don't let my opinion stop you. ( Like it would). People have done it, and a lot of people like it.
If you're unsure, you could PlastiDip it and see how it looks. Then you could remove it and either leave it white, or do the vinyl thing. As mentioned, I believe someone posted a DIY using vinyl on this site. Just search.
Think about heat in the Summer. The interior of the roof it is NOT very well insulated and the dark finish you'r planning to install is going to be the Sun catcher.
Just enter the terms Vinyl Roof in the search function. Plenty of threads, lots of people have done it. Lots of information on it.
I got quoted $250 installed for 3m gloss vinyl on my BP Personas roof. This is from the same place that did my tint and did the vinyl on my Chargers hood in the past.
