The more automakers jump onboard to make EV's, the lower the cost of batteries can get due to faster economies of scale. Hopefully they decide on a standard charger soon though, as having radically different designs to charge up isn't going to help consumers if they can't use charging stations. At least without buying an expensive adapter.
Kia intercepted it. I'd like to see Tesla's plug adopted. Don't need a potential pricy EVSE installed at home. A 40 amp dryer outlet, or 50 amp RV one is all you need for faster home charging. Supercharger access would be nice, but I think Tesla has adapters for Chademo and SAE's ialwaysforgettheofficialname plug. With Musk opening up Tesla's patents this might happen.
Yes, I think they read the toyota PR and watched the lexus videos, and decided it was easier to make plug-ins than to lie about how no one wants them.
Unfortunately both FC vehicles and FC filling stations only exist in 1 state at the moment. EVs exist in all 50. I wish OK would install some FC stations to attract FCVs... We have CNG/LPG, and hydrogen is (after all) a byproduct of the oil industry... Seems like a natural fit for OK.
A CNG station averages around $100,000 extra, hydrogen is about $2.5M. If the station were to charge its capital costs it could easily recoup them with CNG, but the only way to recoup the cost of a hydrogen station is for the government or car companies to pay. Otherwise you simply can't sell enough hydrogen at a price that will pay the capital costs. California is paying $220M from auto fees. Do you want OK to raise auto fees enough to put in hydrogen stations?
Why wouldn't I want to raise taxes to build more infrastructure? We have some of the cheapest taxes in the country, we could afford to raise them and still be cheaper than most states. 3% tax on car purchases, and no personal property tax.... We've got the easy life over here
The problem with raising taxes or introducing new ones is that politicians never met a tax hike they didn't secretly like. Once implemented, many taxes have a funny way of sticking around long after they've served their initial purpose.

Wait !! That's another missed memo; Both FC vehicles? You mean Hyundai has doubled production? .... leased two FC's? Wow! Toyota was right ... they're stampeding to the nearest dealership ... They're great hybrids ... just as Fords are great. Problem is, both companies lied about their mileage and/or electric range. Came back to bite Hyundai in the arse. Mega millions settlement. My sister in law got a nice little check to cover the difference she'll be paying extra for gas. A few hundred bucks over a certain amount of life of the car. I expect good things from their EV. But if they say it goes 200 miles on a charge ... take it with a grain of salt. .
Hill, the Kia Soul actually does quite well and easily hits the EPA numbers. We have to be careful with brand generalization when it comes to their EV offerings.

No slight intended - in fact I test drove the Kia Soul a few weeks ago and was quite impressed. just saying - if they come out with a bigger model intended for the entire nation - I truly hope they don't over state and over promise. .
