Hey all, My girl's Honda is close to death and she likes my 2006 Prius so she's looking at a used 2013 Prius v, package 5 from Carmax. It has 9,000 miles on it and was purchased and driven in Phoenix. They want $28k for it and since I only know about my 2006, could someone here give us an idea of what to look for and is this price good for what we're getting? There's also a 2012 Prius Three for $22k with 34,000 miles that we spotted, but the older we go and the more milage adds up to me being nervous about those cars. We started looking at some other dealers and they seem to want to move their 2014 stock, but they are closer to $30k, but some lower numbered packages are close to this used package five. Any tips, tricks, info you all can share? Thanks in advance!
Go in to a new car dealer and offer them 28k for a 2014 model 5. Fill out a credit app to let them know you are serious and then walk out if you don't get the price. Don't buy anything else from them.
i would go with a '14 Prius Two for the low $20's. can't beat new unless you want all the bells and whistles.
But he says the 2014 Prius Two has 34,000 miles....so it isn't new. Neither deal sounds that great to me. Since I only paid $22,000 dollars for my 2013 Prius Two, and it was new. For either of those vehicles at those prices, I'd want "new". At a $28,000 dollar investment....for a vehicle that is now defined as used, with 9000 miles? Yes, with year end approaching why not look around? I'm thinking you could get both models and trim levels at near those prices new. Those deals sound a lot like paying "New Car" prices for a used car.
I know the prices are location based, but here's what TruCar is showing. Looks like a good time to buy.
Are you specifically looking for a v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) or are you comparing prices for the Prius versus the Prius v? The 2015 Prius v (lowercase v since I'm talking Prius v, uppercase V denotes the 2010 Prius V, Five after 2010) had a mid cycle design refresh, so I think you should be able to find great pricing on the new 2014s right now. You list your location as "Los Angeles". The best advise I could give you is to call Dianne Whitmire at Carson Toyota. As a reference, she has a post in this forum in the link below with her pricing. It includes Liftback, Plug-in, v then c pricing, so you might need to scroll down if you do not see the v prices. I personally bought my Plug-in from her, and a coworker also bought his Liftback from her. You might get similar quotes from other local dealers, but be careful for the "fees" that come up once you actually show up at the dealership. Dianne is extremely straightforward and great to work with. Dianne's SoCal all-things-Prius deals!! 2014 & 2015 models here | PriusChat
You've got several days left to beat the dealers to their best prices. They want to clear inventory and keep it off the 2014 books AND meet their yearly and monthly quotas. Perfect storm for you. But you gotta hurry. Go to www.fightingchance.com for details on how to win at this game. Not a paid promoter - simply a satisfied customer.
If you want to buy yesterday's technology at tomorrow's prices? Buy an up-optioned car. If you're punching below your weight with your car and the extra 6-7 thou isn't that important to you, and you're paying cash? Yeah, buying an up-optioned car might make sense. However (comma!) You asked so it's pretty obvious that money does matter, so no. I don't think that paying 28 thou for a two-year-old, $25,000 car is what you would call a "good deal" unless you're the one selling the car. Gas is less than $2 gallon. That's still too expensive to throw it away, but if you're going to buy a frugal car like a Prius it doesn't make walking around sense to overpay for the car. As stated above....try and get a new 2 or 3 for somewhere between 22-and 25 thousand. If you live in an area where Priuses are over-priced?? Buy one where they're more sensibly priced and drive it home. Good Luck!
The OP is looking for the Prius v 3 or v5, not a standard Prius 3. A quick look on the internet shows a new v3 around $26k with most at $27k.
Wow…I've never even heard of this site before. Can it be trusted? Yep rjparker is correct…we're looking for a Prius v--at least a package 3.
BellBoy, TrueCar | Never overpay. Hassle-free car buying from TrueCar Certified Dealers. can be trusted. Truecar Inc. is traded on the NASDAQ as TRUE. AAA uses them for their car buying program. Truecar brings up a 2014 Prius v Three with mats in 90210 for $23763. You can find used ones in your area cheaper than the one you posted. Read through Car Buying Guide for New and Used Vehicles | CarBuyingTips.com and be prepared to act within the next week. Right now you are in the sweet spot. It's time to make December's quota, 2014's quota, and gas is the lowest it's been in years. You can try negotiating down from the truecar or AAA price. You'll know when you reached the dealer's absolute lowest price when they tell you "if you can buy it from someone else for that price, do it."
irrational, I've noticed the AAA price differs from the price through truecar.com. Is the Amex price the same as truecar's?
USAA also uses TrueCar for their Buyers' Program. It's a good barometer of price to start your shopping but it's not foolproof. I tried it when shopping for my Tacoma last Christmas, but ultimately it didn't work for me. The local dealer I located through USAA/TrueCar who claimed to have the truck I was seeking did a bait-and-switch on me after taking my deposit and assuring me he had the truck. Then he gave me the runaround chasing other trucks in the metro ATL area for a few weeks until I got fed up with his BS and found the Fighting Chance buying strategy. I ended up beating the USAA "no-hassle" price by about $1,100, I believe. As I said above, not a paid promoter of Fighting Chance - just a satisfied customer.
