I live in Henderson, Neveada (S. suburb of 'Vegas) and we have mountains that affect FM reception. After I installed a Beat Sonic shark fin antenna I actually got better reception in normally marginal areas. A car audio installer friend said it may be due to the longer, coiled antenna inside the shark fin. Also the Clear Sky color matched my car perfectly. One of the best mods I have - and I have a lot.
If anyone with a Gen 2 , 2004-2009 Prius needs a new base antenna, No whip, I have one on Ebay 86300-47030 Toyota Prius Antenna 2004-2009 (201236674238) Super pricing!
I installed a $7 painted one from eBay. Works and looks fine. It had to be modified and it barely fit. I'm talking fractions of a millimeter snug fit. I"m happy I saved money! and yes it has a screw attachment you screw to the antenna base that connects to some chip inside the housing via a wire. The receiption was there but noticably weaker. but i don't listen to FM. And even then, most of the stations I would listen to anyway come out clear. Just some are staticy some of the time. I'll remedy this by coiling some wire around something and modifying it further. I'll post a pic today.
Just back on the next day without touch. Maybe a loose screw but hate to open the double side tape (don't have replacement). Thx,
