I have a gen 2 prius bought last year. So far I have run 9972 miles. But the maintenance reminder light is not on. I am going to change the oil any way. Just not sure why my reminder is not on. Could it be disabled?
i'm sorry, i didn't see the 'light' part. we don't have a light either. it's a message on the info screen.
if its like a usa car, it should have come on by now. check your owners manual to verify it has it, then you may need to go to the dealer if it should be there. my '04 and '05 would come on every 5k without fail.
The UK Prii will only put up reminders if you manually set them. I can't remember whether that feature is only on the T-Spirit, or whether other spec levels have it too. I did use them for a bit, bit it felt a bit like too much hard work to be really useful. YMMV. If it interests you, all the information is in the owner's manual.
Only North American 2G Prius have the MAINT REQD light located in the combination meter. That light will come on solid at 5K mile intervals based upon an odometer timer. Its purpose is to remind the owner to get an engine oil/oil filter change.
It's possible that it may have been (accidentally) reset by either you or a service technician. Did you have the 5K maintenance performed at 5K or maybe a slightly higher mileage?
Thanks to everyone offered information. Just to confirm, the meter went through 10000 miles and reset itself back from zero. Still no reminder. So, I think my prius has no maintenance warning. Have bought the oil filter wrench adapter and Magantec 5W30 oil and will change the oil this weekend.
One more thing, I got 67MPG (UK) on the display, most on the motorway at 60mph. I love the prius, it has very large leg room and comfortable to cruise on motorway. Family need another car, and I am thinking buy a modern diesel with similar MPG, because my wife doesn't like the CVT during acceleration. You can feel the stress from 10 to 50mph.
I have a 2005 and have been maintaining it for the last three years; never seen a maintenance light pop up. The modern diesels are impressive! My friend had a 2011 Jetta and now has traded up to a Passat. On a trip to the US recently, he managed 4.3L/100k...and that's the wife, 3 kids and luggage in tow. Manual transmission, all the bells and whistles....and should last well over 300k. The only way I have him beat is gas is 20% cheaper than diesel (0.97/L vs 1.18/L today). Faz
That is impressive, however would not sway me. My brother has a Passat and my wife and I went with his wife and him on a day trip. I was so tired and had a headache coming on by the end of the day. This was almost entirely down to the constant drone of the diesel engine all day. I'm sorry, I could go over to that.
