2006 Prius Dash Switch Blanks

probably parking assist and Ev mode. if park assist doesn't have a main button.. then i remember seeing something else that did. I think i saw it on the lexux though *scratches head*

 

Here you go. I got this from a euro site. My dash will hopefully look similar shortly.

On this euro model it has headlight adjust? EV, and Park Assist.

I think its to adjust the headlights aim up or down. I would use it to blind people with badly adjusted headlights that were blinding me like on redneck pickup trucks with aftermarket HIDs.

 

dang, why can't we have those buttons...the headlight up and down would be awesome.

 

do our ECUs have park assist? or do you just want to fill in the blanks

I want to fill in my blanks with the EV button and IPA button. I'm going to use the IPA button for the anytime camera mod. I'm trying to make every mod I do appear to look stock.

 

In Europe we have a whole other light system then in the US. We shine only in front of us, you shine also a bit to the sides. As why they are adjustable I really do not know, but my guess is that when it is foggy you want to shine less to the front and more to the car....

The headlight adjustment is used in rally racing. On my former Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII and my Subaru Impreza WRX STi, they both have it. I'm guessing when you're going uphill, instead of the lights shining straight up into the sky, you could use it to illuminate the road.

 

In the US, any car equipped with HID lights is required to have automatic adjustment. So our lights DO adjust -- they just don't have knob. Think of it as an "automatic" vs. "manual" transmission.

 

I used the one on the far right for a SPST toggle switch for activating my rear view camera "full time". Not that easy to locate while driving I might add.

 

It could be the dashlight dimmer knob thats what we have there..

This is INCORRECT. Both my 04 Nissan 350Z have and my former 02 Nissan Maxima had HID lights. NEITHER had any sort of leveling system: auto or manual. We went over this before in http://priuschat.com/index.php?s=&showtopi...ndpost&p=201106 and I verified it via the factory service manual for my Z.

Why would groups be pushing for NHTSA to require them in the US if it were required already? (for example see http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/cars/ma...3/overview.htm) Why would NHTSA be asking for comment at http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/rulings/glare.html for questions like this if they were already required in the US?

In Europe, all HID lights must have auto-leveling.
Prius in Europe is not availlable with HID lights.
Manual headlight adjustment on cars with conventional lights is used to compensate for a heavy load in the back.

 

OK, I realize that I'm bringing a very old thread back from the dead.
Can anybody tell me how to get access to the dash switch blanks so that I can remove one and install a different one? (I've purchased a bluetooth adapter off of Amazon that fits in one of those spots.)

(And if it is so simple that an idiot could figure it out, I apologize. I've purchased this adapter for my son's 2nd gen as a Christmas gift -- our own Prius is a 3rd gen, and that one looks difficult. However, I'd like to be able to explain to him how to install this on his 2009.)

It's usually not too difficult, no matter what the generation is. The panels of the instrument panel are made to be easy to pop into place at the factory, and they are also easy to pop out. The only tricky bit is the way, for aesthetics, they are designed not to have the fastenings show, and they usually overlap each other in a clever way so you have to know what to pop out first, and that makes it easy to pop out the next one, and so on.

In a Gen 3, for example, you have to start with the driver's door sill trim and the kick panel, and the A/C vent in the corner. (Might not have guessed those, huh?) On some panels there might be a small screw involved (or a nut, as on the Gen 3 kick panel), and others just pop right out.
