OK all first off I'm a newb and this is my first Prius and post so please bare with me. I have a 2002 classic so hope I'm posting in the most correct area as I did not see a category for the Gen l Prius. Anyway I do not have the tools/space/resources to try and do a complete transaxle swap so I thought why not just do the G2 stator swap from a used transmission? It looks pretty straight forward and something I could possibly do in my garage but I may be wrong? I'm fairly mechanically inclined however have never taken on a huge project like removing an engine. I figure once the side cover is off (the used unit) I can tell the condition of the G2 stator because it will be burnt like I'm sure mine is. I have confirmed it's the transaxle and was going off the lucious garage site where 99 out of 100 are the G2 stator. I am looking for the cheapest route possible as I am selling the car to purchase a Gen ll . It's been dealer serviced since day 1 by the previous owner but of course I'm sure they never dropped the pan so 170k later it will hardly move anymore. Am I on the right track or is this a much larger job than I am thinking it is? Also if I'm supposed to post this somewhere else please advise. This is a wonderful forum and I can see many helpful members reside here. Thank you in advance!

    HI Markus. Welcome to PC.
Although I have not done this job it does appear to be quite straightforward without having to remove the transmission from the car. I have seen a video of the procedure, and it looks very easy if you are used to doing moderate tasks on vehicles. I suggest you take your time and take photographs of the work as this way when reassembling anything your unsure about can be checked against the pictures. Good luck.

Thank you for the reply John. I now see there is a gen 1 category. Can the mods please move my question to the correct category? Thank you much!
