I just got new Nokian R2 on my Prius. They are on separate stock rims of the same year. I also got new tpms sensors for them. Discount tire put them on, one backwards but they fixed it, and they where low, 20 psi. The light came on, so I filled them up and reset the light. Five days later it was back on and Discount says they are at 33 front and 32 rear. But they look like they are sagging soooo much! They fixed the light and checked for leaks. All good. Today they are squirmy on the roads and they look like they are sagging very bad! Like there is no air in them, but they show 33 psi. On the tire itself it says: "PSI 32. 34. 36. 38. 40. 42". What is it?! haha. So confusing! Is it the same as the stock OEM tire?
Is 33/32 what you ran your summer tires at? Most go more and I wonder if you are feeling/seeing the difference. Go test your other set of tires. See if there is a difference. Test your tire pressure gauge. And if TPMS is reading the pressures you are reporting, did they reset to TPMS display to display from the new sensors in the new tires? Could you be checking pressures via the TPMS while in your garage close to the old tires?
The row of various tire pressure numbers on the sidewall is put there by Nokian to allow a tire installer to put a color marker into the circle that is appropriate for your car. Most don't bother.... But they could have put one in 33 and for the rears colored 32 so you would remember what they should be kept at. The r2's are dedicated winter tires that will wear faster and be "squirmy" if temperatures are high. I went with WRG3's because they tolerate all temperatures and can be left on all year without the costs of storage/changeovers/extra rims/tpms etc. Roland
Look at the max cold setting on the side of the tires. You will note it is max 55 lbs.. I run 40 - 38. on my WR G2. I believe that is what you should try? H
Tideland Prius, a mod here, owned Hakka R2's up in Edmonton. They get lots more winter weather around there than we do where I live, so I am better off with the WRG3's. Maybe he will eventually visit this thread, or you could pm him to ask about the tires. As far as I know, if you are at Toyota pressure amounts with cold tires, then you are going to be fine. As Harold says, you can bump it up if you like, but for what it is worth though, it doesn't matter so much as to how they look... they are radials after all and running at 33/32 cold should be perfectly fine. thanks, its very foreign to me when a tire doesn't say max. tire pressure on the side, or even a number to put it at.
You really have to look for the max. setting in the small square box on the sidewall. My WR g2 have a max of 55 lbs.. Hal
The side walls on the Hakk R2 are very soft, so they do look like they sag regardless. However, I'd pump up the pressure a bit anyway. I'm running mine at 42 front/40 rear and it seems alright so far. I may bring them both down 2 psi soon though, I seem to be sliding around on hard pack snow more than I'd like. Otherwise great tires though. Good luck.
Noticed the Nokians were cheaper than the Bridgestone 422 PLUS. Any reason to switch at the 60K point?
