Hi I found two fuses behind the left kick panel. I would rather use my add a fuse there but not without knowing what they are for. They are in a brown colored holder below a white connector for factory remote start. Any insight appreciated.
If the fuse information is not on the back of the fuse cover check your Owner's Manual. That should give you the fuse information that you are looking for.
don't know about the Gen III, but on the Gen II those items you talked about are the fuses for the power windows and the electric window defroster. I am guessing the Gen III is similar, but have not tore into ours yet... Ron
It's not in the owners manual that i can find. Also there is a no cover. I couldn't find it in the 2010 service manual and schematic either. When it stops raining over here I'll post a picture. I also spoke with a Toyota tech that installed my factory remote start and he didn't know either. ..
Okay heres a pic. The two 10amp fuses bottom center. For reference you can see the parking brake on the right.
The difference in color of the fuse block makes it looks like it has been added. Is the cable running in front of the fuses coming from the back of fuses? If so this has definitely been added. Do you know of any non-OEM equipment that has been added?
Only thing added was toyota remote start which is one of the plugs above the fuses. The pdf for installing that doesn't show any fuses. I sent the pic to the tech that did that install so if no one here can find out he has resources to find out. The Remote Engine Starter PDF show these two 10A fuses (with discolored plastic) in Figures 5-5 and 5-10, so they are not an add-on. I'll try hunting through the wiring diagrams when I have the time to see if I can locate these fuses and see what they are used for.
I haven't heard back from my contact yet. Without going on a tangent could they be for the illusive edr or event data recorder?
Reading trough the thread I noticed that you had a OEM remote started installed. Do you have the part number for this installed kit? I'm finding difficult to add a similar aftermarket piece that works well with a PiP
Sorry I don't have the part number. The install manual for the remote start doesn't show the fuse holder in its parts list. It happens to show the fuses in the background of one of the steps. BTW I have the fully loaded model with the advanced technology package. I'll bet these fuses are just for something they don't want pulled normally like the power steering or something...

I guess the PIP is special since one would want to heat or cool it while still plugged in. I'm surprised they didn't include a solution like the Nissan Leaf "carwings" Have you posted in the specific PIP side of prius chat?
fanplant, I sorry to be a pest but I have another question for you. PriusChat doesn't have that kit any longer since a while now and it was almost at MSRP. Your remote starter was installed by a Toyota service dept or an independent installer place? also, about the PDF that you sent to the tech for technical evaluation, in that PDF should be the KIT part number for the remote starter. I'm trying to pinpoint if there is more than one kit available for certain Prius models. I can't cross reference any for the Prius Plug-in in this site or google
Bump my tech never got back to me. Anyone find the fuses? I've since used my add a fuse in the normal fuse block but am still curious. ..
The tan fuse block with only two fuses is Fuse Block L103. It is only found on vehicles equipped with Lane Keeping Assist. The upper fuse is WIP No.3 and the lower fuse is WIP No.4. These fuses are in circuits providing wiper and washer status inputs to the Driving Support ECU. Lane Keeping Assist is cancelled when the wipers are turned on. By the way, the event data recorder is part of the Airbag ECU. As I understand it, an airbag deployment event is required for it to save a record.
