I've been looking for a potential replacement for my 2008 Prius. I won't buy a Gen III due to the console. If they don't design the flying buttress out in the 2016 version I'll be buying something else. I took a look at a bunch of high mileage cars. It's pretty difficult to find a replacement for a Prius. They are just good all around cars with good all around specs. The one car that bubbled to the surface was the Ford C-Max Hybrid but, like the PIP, it doesn't have a spare tire. I've been looking through forums for cars that don't have spare tires and the stories bother me. 1) Some suggest carrying a spare. If that makes sense then it should have been designed into the car. If I have to carry a spare in my cargo space I won't be happy. 2) Some say rely on a phone call to Ford (or other) but that may not always be available or timely, if I could reach them at all. 3) Some suggest carrying a repair kit. I can think of a number of reasons I don't want to be trying to patch a tire while on the road. 4) Some say call AAA. First I'd have to pay for an AAA contract. Then I might not have cell service. AAA could be a long wait. If AAA can't fix my tire (long slit due to road obstacle) they won't have a spare. I can't put my self in a position to be on the road, without a spare, with the family in the car, and not have access to some sort of services. I will not be buying a car without a spare of some kind designed into the vehicle.
