Bridgestone Ecopia EP20 wear?

On my 2012 oem Yoko's and need tires real soon, I also think I need new pads. I'm at 42,000 miles

 

Incidentally I also have 26000 miles on EP20 and they look similar if not slightly worse. I typically get 30,000-40,000 from OEM tires, so this is expected. OEM tires are usually not long -life.

 

Yes the OEM tires are made to be cheaper if you bought the same brand and model at a tire store they are better and last longer, the car Mfg. specs are to buy the tire at a CHEAPER price for Bridgestone takes out some of the good and costly stuff out of the tire..................... nice ugh

 

I can't see the inside of your tire but judging by by what I do see, you have less wear in the center than the outside of the tire. Seems like you can even out the wear by pumping up your tires a bit.

 

I have over 50K miles on mine. I may be able to get 60. I am looking to replace them with the same. I checked with Firestone and the EP20's are more fuel efficient than the EP 422's

why would you check with firestone. do they make the ep20?

 

Let me guess, mostly Hwy?
City driving gets roughly half of miles vs hwy driving. Cornering is brutal on rubber.

Not sure about the efficiency difference.

 

I have the same tires. I just looked on Tirerack.com for tread life and it has none. Looks like I could get 40 or 50,000 miles. I hope so. I keep mine at 38 but plan on upping them to 40,42.

 

Bridgestone bought Firestone, so same company now. But Firestone has stores/shops, Bridgestone doesn't.
So they probably checked with a Firestone shop. Either way, same difference.
I know I'm late, but I was reading this thread and figured I'd clear that up.

 

Wow, these are great pictures in terms of texture and tread depth. The tread is still great in the center, but is thin on the outside of the tires. This means you are wearing it down faster in that section. The cause: taking turns at a speed that is too fast for your car. That's why they're wearing down so much there. It happens with my tires too. I don't like it, but that's most likely what it is.

 

I'm officially at 62,000 miles with original EP20's. They're toast. I'm basically just stretching them out as long as I can until I order winter tires, which will be very soon. If I can get these tires into November, or even December, before finally putting my winter tires on, I'll be happy.

I haven't used any on the car yet. Last winter my stock tires were ok, but not great. I'll probably go with nokian hakkapeliitta's this winter. I've heard great things about them.

I have 28,000 on my EP20's and they are close to the end of life. May get another 7,000 if I am lucky. But winter is coming so may be better to buy new tires soon.

 

Definitely. Don't want to mess around on slippery roads with bald tires.

Do you have separate rims, or are you planning on getting them? It's a good strategy, there's a corolla rim that'll work.

I would get the snows sooner than later, for a couple of reasons. Later, they may sell out, and/or the shops are crazy busy. Also, you do NOT want to get caught out in snow with near-bald EP20's.

 

Yeah I know, I've been doing this awhile.
I wasn't planning on a separate set of wheels this winter, but will probably do it eventually. I did it on my wife's SUV the past few years, and it worked out great.

How does Bridgestone Ecopia EP20 compare with Bridgestone Ecopia EP422? Has anyone had experience with a Michelin Primacy MXV4(H) on a 2011 Toyota Prius

 

I replaced mine at 41k miles. It was to the point where it was dangerous to drive in the rain (hydroplane at 60mph) even though I'm sure I can squeeze another 5k miles before i get to the tread wear indicator. Now I have Continental Pure Contact and I love them!
