Hello, The driver side tail light on my 2007 Prius is out. I looked up parts on Amazon, found this: I was wondering: is it necessary to buy this whole piece, and is it easy to install??? Is is possible to just buy a bulb (it's just my tail light that's out, the brake lights work fine). For instance, this:
If it is just your running lights its about $5 for two bulbs at any auto-store. The 2005 Prius I have uses the 2825 Sylvania Longlife Bulbs. Just walk into any auto-store and they will be able to help you. If you want to make sure it is the bulb in the back on the left and right side of the hatch you can pull off little beige covers and twist to remove the sockets, the bulbs just pull out, swap them around to make sure that it is the bulbs, if it is you can just take the bad one into the auto-store to make it easy to find another.
Also best to use the Sylvania brand 2825 LL (Long Life) bulb unless you are replacing the units with LED's. I recommend you change both sides at the same time. Front marker lamps also uses the same 5 Watt Wedge Type Bulb. I usually purchased these at Auto Zone. A little dieelectric grease on the end of the bulbs actually helps to keep good connections and keep every thing dry and moisture free. If you still have problems after that, make certain that the wire harness ground is solid and firmly attached to the frame. The harness and ground is hidden behind the carpeting. Easy to access. Only bulbs not replaceable back there is the brake lights. Have to change the whole unit as the brake light is a big LED rather than one or two bulbs. Peace, Ron (dorunron)
