I'm replacing this now because the black rubber got all gooey and it doesn't work reliably anymore. I bought the part of Toyota and told them I had the "Smart key" entry (where you can push the little button on the hatch to unlock/lock). The part I got is the button with two wires going to a 4 female prong connector. So there are two wires coming from the button itself and when I pulled the old one the smart button is also tied in to the connector. So my question is, did I get the wrong part or do I need to just pull the "pin outs" (metal pieces and wire from the old connector for the smart portion) and insert them into the new part I bought? Thanks!

what I did (someone else on PC did it first) was to dis-assemble the handle and reuse the original microswitch with the new handle. once you get it apart, you can test the original microswitch to verify it still works. most likely it is ok and you just have goo in the handle causing it to malfunction.

Yes, you did get the wrong part, because the correct part will come with a new Smart square button switch - however it sounds like you have a plan to make the part work.
